Long Phuoc Tunnels - The village of Long Phuoc featured an extensive tunnel system connecting the village to the northeastern jungle areas. Similar to other tunnel systems in Vietnam, it included meeting areas, first aid stations, and fighting pits. American units suffered heavy casualties when clearing the area for the Australian base, as they encountered fire from the tunnel system’s fighting pits.
After lunch, enjoy a visit to Nui Dat SS Hill. In 1966, this area, then part of Phuoc Tuy Province, hosted a significant Australian military base during the Vietnam War. The site was selected by Lieutenant General John Wilton in 1966 and was primarily constructed by the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. Visit Ming Dam, once known as “The Secret Zone.”
