Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Bouguemez Valley (1800m) – Ikkis N’Arous Pasture (2300m)
M’goun Massif - The journey begins with an early morning transfer from Marrakech to the quaint town of Azilal, often referred to as the gateway to the mountains. From there, the journey continues to the Tizi N’Tirghist pass (2900m) before arriving at the serene and delightful Aît Bougmez valley. Upon arrival, the team of muleteers is met, and a delightful lunch is enjoyed. The ascent then begins, moving up the small Arous valley towards the Ikkis N’Arous pasture sheepfolds. Overnight stay in tents, five-hour drive, two-hour walk, Up 500m, Down 0m, 8 km.
Day 2: Ikkis N’Arous Pasture – Tarkedit Pass (3400m) – Tarkedit Plateau (2900m)
M’goun Massif - On the second day, the adventure continues with a climb towards the Tarkedit pass, situated at an altitude of 3400 meters. Several stops are made to admire the enchanting view of the Mgoun range and the Mgoun summit, which reaches 4068 meters above sea level. A descent of about 2 hours follows to the Tarkedit plateau, a vast area frequented by Nomads. Overnight stay in tents. Six-hour walk, Up 1100m, Down 500m, 13 km.
Day 3: Tarkadit – M’Goun Summit (4071m) – Izabinne Sheepfold (2600m)
M’goun Massif - The third day presents a particularly challenging stage, with approximately 9 hours of walking planned. The climb to the ridge offers breathtaking panoramic views leading to the summit of M’goun, the pinnacle of the central High Atlas. From there, the splendid view of the entire M’Goun Massif and its distant valleys, especially the Draa and Dades Valleys, is truly mesmerizing. A long descent through stunning landscapes leads to the camp. Overnight stay in tents, Up 1200m, Down 1470m, 22 km.
Day 4: Izabinne Sheepfold (2600m) – Bouberden Pass (3100m) – Timit Village (1800m)
M’goun Massif - The fourth day offers an opportunity to meet nomads with their families and herds. The journey heads towards the Bouberden pass, reaching 3100 meters above sea level, providing a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and a rear view of the M’goun. A long descent leads to the Ait Bougmez valley, where a midday meal is enjoyed near the juniper amber. After about 2 hours of further descent, the lodge in the village of Timit is reached. Overnight stay in a local Guesthouse—a 6-hour walk, Up 500m, Down 1350m, 21km.
Day 5: Ait Bougmez Valley – Ouzoud waterfalls – Marrakech
Ait Bougmez Valley - On the final day, the drive leads to the small town of Azilal. A visit to the renowned Ouzoud waterfalls is planned, followed by lunch at a nearby local restaurant. After this excursion, the return to Marrakech is scheduled, with an expected arrival around 4 p.m. 5-hour drive. End of Jebel M’goun trek.
