- Museum of Miniature Books - Situated in the old city of Icheri Sheher, the Museum of Miniature Books is recognized by the Guinness Book of Records for having the largest collection of miniature books. - Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center - The Heydar Aliyev Center is a major tourist attraction and a symbol of modern Azerbaijan and Baku. Designed by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid, a recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize and Design of the Year award, the building’s shape resembles a wave rising from the ground to the sky and then descending back to earth. This internationally acclaimed architectural masterpiece features a curved modern style and includes a museum, gallery hall, and grand auditorium.
- National Museum of History of Azerbaijan - The building itself is a cultural monument, originally constructed in the late 19th century by Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiev, a notable philanthropist and arts patron. After discovering oil, he became Russia’s wealthiest man and built this grand palace for his second wife. However, when Soviet forces entered Baku in 1920, he fled, and the palace was seized as state property and converted into the museum it is today. The Azerbaijan National History Museum opened to the public in 1921 and now houses over 300,000 artifacts, including significant documents, weapons, jewelry, clothing, handmade carpets, and old books. The first floor is dedicated to ancient history, featuring items from archaeological digs and the Caspian Sea floor.
- Museum of Modern Art - Initiated by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, the Museum of Modern Art opened in 2009. It features a ‘moving abstract structure’ with bright white walls and open spaces that allow for a multidimensional perspective of each exhibit. Located near Baku’s business hub, the museum’s collection includes over 800 avant-garde pieces by Azerbaijan’s leading painters and sculptors from the past 70 years. Visitors can admire works by artists such as Rasim Babayev, Ashraf Murad, and Fazil Najafov, whose paintings and sculptures are inspired by the colors and climate of the Absheron.
- Museum of Ethnography and Archeology - Located opposite the Gosha Gala Gapisi tower gates in Icherisheher [Old City], the Archaeology and Ethnography Museum is open on weekdays from 11 am to 5 pm, offering free entry to history enthusiasts. The museum’s exhibits provide a comprehensive view of primitive camps, living areas, pastoralist and farmer settlements, gravestones, early urban culture, and the historical and material culture of ancient states.
