• Shri Kailasa Temple, Ellora - The most remarkable cave at Ellora is Number 16, known as the Kailasa Cave. Designed to mirror Mount Kailash, the divine residence of Lord Shiva, Cave 16 stands as a self-supporting temple complex and is the largest single monolithic excavation globally. Kailasa was constructed by Krishna I (757–773) of the Rashtrakuta dynasty. It is twice the size of the Parthenon in Athens and was built by 7,000 workers over 150 years.
• Ellora Caves - Verul Leni, commonly referred to as Ellora Caves, represents one of the finest examples of rock-cut architecture in India. Situated near the Indian city of Aurangabad, Ellora Caves consist of 34 caves carved out of the Charanandri hills. This UNESCO World Heritage site features a blend of Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain caves. Constructed between the 5th and 10th centuries, Ellora Caves are located on an ancient trade route and, unlike the Ajanta Caves, were never lost and have been visited continuously over the years.
• Ellora - Cave 10, also known as Dashavatara, is another magnificent example of rock-cut sculpture. It features an open court with a free-standing monolithic “mandapa” in the center and a two-story excavated temple at the back. A must-see relief in Dashavatara is the depiction of the death of Hiranyakashipu by Lord Narasimha, the Man-Lion avatar of Vishnu.

This monumental task was accomplished by 7,000 laborers over a span of 150 years.
