Mt Smart Stadium Auckland New Zealand - Achilles Point (Te Pane o Horoiwi – The head of Horoiwi) is a rocky headland at the eastern end of Ladies Bay, Auckland, New Zealand. The name ‘Te Pane o Horoiwi’ can also refer to the entire headland between St Heliers and the Tamaki River estuary. Named after the HMNZS Achilles (70), which defeated the German battleship Admiral Graf Spee in 1939, the headland was previously known as Te Pane o Horoiwi, named after Horoiwi who arrived in New Zealand on the Tainui canoe (waka).

Rotorua, Waitomo Caves & Kiwi Bird Park Tour
Rotorua - Discover otherworldly geothermal parks, indulge in rejuvenating spa and wellness therapies, and explore the beautiful Whakarewarewa Forest and 18 lakes. Enjoy thrilling adventures, create family memories, and immerse yourself in Māori culture. Accommodation options and award-winning cafés and restaurants cater to all tastes and budgets.
Te Puia - Visit Te Puia Geothermal Valley to see live Kiwi Birds, smell the lovely Manuka Flower, watch the Puhotu Geyser Eruption (the largest geyser in the southern hemisphere), enjoy a glimpse of the Maori Cultural Performance, and witness the creation of great Maori carvings at the National Carving Institute inside Te Puia.
Lake Rotorua - This serene lake has a dramatic history. Formed by a collapsed magma chamber after a massive eruption around 200,000 years ago, it is the North Island’s second-largest lake. Geothermal activity continues around Lake Rotorua, with steam clouds drifting along the shore and the water’s high sulfur content creating a magical green-blue hue.
Government Gardens - Explore historic gardens surrounding a Tudor-style spa bathhouse and an ornate Mediterranean-style public swimming pool. Peer through the steam into ancient bubbling geothermal pools.
Originally known as Paepaekumana, the Government Gardens are located on the lake’s edge in downtown Rotorua. This site holds legendary and historical importance to local Māori people, as many significant battles occurred here. In the late 1800s, the Māori people gifted 50 acres of this land to the crown “for the benefit of the people of the world.” The land was transformed from a scrub-covered geothermal area with therapeutic pools into formal gardens. Several large trees remain from those early days, including multi-trunked Japanese firs and a unique Californian weeping redwood. In 1908, the New Zealand government opened a large and elaborate bathhouse, creating a South Pacific spa attraction.
Waitomo Glowworm Caves - Be enchanted by thousands of magical glowworms as you glide silently by boat in the world-famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Guided since the late 1880s, this iconic New Zealand attraction offers unforgettable sightseeing experiences. Enjoy the renowned boat ride under thousands of glowworms and become part of over 125 years of cultural and natural history. Expert guides will share the Caves’ historical and geological significance.
World-renowned and a magnet for both local and international visitors, the Waitomo Glowworm Caves are a must-see destination on any New Zealand vacation wish-list.
More than 30 million years ago, the legend of Waitomo began with the formation of limestone at the ocean’s bottom. Today, these limestone formations stand as one of New Zealand’s most inspiring natural wonders.
Otorohanga Kiwi House & Native Bird Park - Since 1971, the Otorohanga Kiwi House & Native Bird Park has been breeding Kiwi. This not-for-profit wildlife and conservation center displays Kiwi birds all day in specialized moonlit nocturnal houses with burrow cameras. It also breeds rare native New Zealand wildlife for release into the wild.
The family-friendly park offers close-up viewing of New Zealand’s national bird, the Kiwi. There are also ponds, wetland areas, and walk-through aviaries, including a giant dome aviary. Open daily, except Christmas Day, with informative Keeper talks at 10.30am, 1.30pm & 3.30pm (kiwi) plus 11am (native parrots: kea & kaka), 12pm (kakariki), and 2.30pm (long fin eels & blue ducks). All ticket sales support the Park’s wildlife and conservation efforts.
