It’s a must if you’re a fan of LOTR - I had an amazing experience at Wētā Workshop Unleashed in Auckland! The tour was incredibly immersive, creative, and well-organized. Every room was filled with impressive details, props, and behind-the-scenes insights that truly brought the magic of filmmaking to life. A special thank you to our guide, Emma, who made the experience even better. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about her work. Her explanations were clear and entertaining, and she made the whole tour fun and memorable. Highly recommend this experience — especially if you get Emma as your guide

Perfect way to spend some time in Auckland - If you're after an entertaining way to pass a few hours - and you're a movie/fantasy/LOTR fan - give this tour a try. We had an unexpected day in Auckland and having been there previously and done most of the other "touristy" things, we decided to give this a go. The tour is very interactive and hands-on, with lots of opportunities and time to play with the exhibits. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and fun, appealing to the kids and adults alike. All in all, good value for money and a great way to learn about the movie-making world. *Side note, we have also done the Weta Workshop experience in Wellington in the past, which was just as much fun and well worth looking into also!

A Behind-the-Scenes Adventure: Wētā Workshop Unleashed with Thomas - Wētā Workshop Unleashed Tour in Auckland was truly an unforgettable adventure! From the moment I stepped into the workshop, I was captivated by the incredible artistry and attention to detail that goes into creating the props, costumes and special effects. A big highlight of the tour was our guide, Thomas. Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable, but his sense of humour added a whole new layer to the experience. He had us laughing at just the right moments, while also providing us with fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about the films and the work that goes into making the magic happen. It was clear that he genuinely enjoyed sharing his passion for the craft and his witty remarks made the tour feel relaxed and fun. Thomas was also great at answering all our questions, adding a personal touch to the experience, which made it feel like a private, tailored tour. The hands-on exhibits were fantastic and I loved getting the chance to interact with some of the displays. It was incredible to see how intricate and labour-intensive the work is and how passionate the team at Wētā is about their craft. If you're in Auckland, this tour is an absolute must for anyone who loves film, special effects, or simply appreciates amazing craftsmanship. I left with a new level of admiration for the magic that happens behind the scenes in filmmaking. Huge thanks to Thomas for making this experience even more memorable with his humour and engaging personality!

Weta workshop - no lord of the rings featured :( - We were hoping to see SOMETHING from lord of the rings there but it was mostly about 3 “movies” that weta helped in making. It was underwhelming but glad we did it.

It is like a Disney walk... - It is like a Disney walk through attraction. It is really not a look at the workings of Weta Workshop.

Not Wellington - It’s quite basic compared to the Wellington one The guide was bubbly but didn’t seem to have the same knowledge as the Wellington guides. Not really worth the money for what you get

If You’re Not a Weta Geek then Don’t Bother! - Booked this the day before to fill a rainy morning in Auckland. Didn’t know anything about Weta but it looked interesting. Unfortunately the tour was very disappointing for several reasons. Firstly, the guide was difficult to understand as English was not their first language. I kept looking at my wife asking her what the guide had said so this detracted hugely from the experience. It was obvious from square one that the guide was really enthusiastic and overexcited about Weta but this just drew little response or puzzled faces from those of us on the tour. From the start I wondered what exactly I was letting myself in for. I’d expected a guided tour explaining how special effects were designed and produced. Whilst there were elements of this it was apparent that I was expected to know all about Weta and the films they’ve been involved in but I did not. I can only presume that Weta has a huge geek following by people who understand all about the films and would get an awful lot more from this tour! Whilst this tour might be of interest if you know all about Weta it really isn’t for anyone else. Elements were interesting and quite impressive but that’s 90 minutes of my life wasted that I can’t claim back!
