A Journey into the Upside Down

As a former city planner turned travel writer, I have always been drawn to the vibrant pulse of urban landscapes. So when I heard about the Stranger Things Film Locations Tour in Atlanta, I knew it was a must-do. The idea of exploring the real-life settings of one of my favorite shows, “Stranger Things,” was too enticing to pass up.

The adventure began with a warm welcome from our friendly driver at the hotel. We embarked on a comfortable, air-conditioned ride through the scenic beauty of Atlanta. The city, with its mix of modern skyscrapers and historic charm, set the perfect backdrop for our journey into the world of Hawkins, Indiana.

Our first stop was the neighborhoods where the Wheelers, Sinclairs, and Hendersons lived. Walking through these streets, I could almost see the boys on their bikes, racing through the scenes that have become so iconic. It was a surreal experience, blending the fictional world with reality.

Exploring Hawkins

Next, we visited Hawkins Middle School, the home of the Hawkins Cubs. Standing in front of the school, I could almost hear the echoes of Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas as they navigated the trials of adolescence and the supernatural. The nostalgia was palpable, and I found myself reminiscing about my own school days.

Hawkins High School was our next destination, the hangout for Nancy, Steve, Jonathan, and poor Barb. The school grounds were eerily quiet, a stark contrast to the bustling scenes from the show. It was fascinating to see how these ordinary locations were transformed into the extraordinary world of “Stranger Things.”

We also stopped by the Hawkins Public Pool, where Billy ruled the summer of Season 3. The pool, now empty, still held the echoes of laughter and drama that unfolded there. It was a reminder of the show’s ability to turn everyday places into memorable settings.

Behind the Scenes

Our tour concluded with a visit to Screen Gems Studios, where the magic of “Stranger Things” comes to life. Seeing the studios where the show is filmed was a dream come true for a fan like me. It was a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative process that brings the Upside Down to our screens.

Before heading back to the hotel, we had two hours of free time to explore Atlanta on our own. I took this opportunity to wander through the city’s vibrant neighborhoods, discovering hidden gems and soaking in the local culture. Atlanta’s energy is infectious, and I found myself drawn to its lively streets and eclectic nightlife.

As our private vehicle whisked us back to the hotel, I reflected on the day’s adventure. The Stranger Things Film Locations Tour was more than just a trip down memory lane; it was an exploration of the intersection between fiction and reality, a journey into the heart of a city that continues to surprise and delight.
