Amazing day trip to the monasteries - I was nervous at the beginning when we got to the buses, as it was very chaotic and disorganized. After we found which bus we were on, the rest of the day was practically a 5-star review. The buses were really nice and air-conditioned. If you want to charge your phone at all, bring a USB phone adapter as that is what the outlets on the bus were, or just bring your own portable charger. Definitely bring some kind of charging mechanism as it was a very long and full day. Our tour guide was very sweet. I can’t remember her name, but she was very helpful and always willing to answer our miscellaneous questions that we had. The bus ride to the monasteries took about 4.5-5 hours since we took a break stop about 2 hours in, and then another stop for lunch before heading into the monasteries. I did not pay for an included lunch voucher, and I was okay without it. I would definitely pack some snacks and/or part of a meal if that is something you’d like to have during the day. The lunch was more of a food court/school lunch type of system. You can always decide to pay for a lunch when you get there though — it was €15 for a salad, food plate, and water. We got to go inside 3 of the 6 monasteries. I thought all 3 of the ones we went inside of were very interesting and a great sight to see. They really did not miss anything in Meteora on this trip! To go inside the monasteries, you have to pay €5, so I would make sure to bring some Euros with you. There was a lot of “hop on, hop off” moments with the bus, and I really enjoyed that there was not an extensive amount of walking. We spent about 5 hours up at the monasteries, and I felt like it was the perfect amount of time. On a ride back, we stopped by the same place we went to right before the monasteries before we headed home. There was not a food service per say, but you could buy snacks/drinks and use the restroom before heading back. We stopped again after 2 hours at the same place we were at for the first stop, and they had some dinner options. I am not sure how much it cost, but you were also able to get snacks/drinks there as well as the restroom. Overall, it was a VERY long and busy day, but I would say the money spent was very well worth it. I would definitely recommend to others!

Hit and back from Athens that's worth it - I hired from the site the one-day ride to Meteora leaving and returning to Athens, and despite so much time on the road, it was wonderful! The guide Clement was perfect, as did the drivers. The sun appeared after the rain and the landscapes and monasteries are well worth the effort! He wanted to come back and stay for more days.

Great place to visit - The trip with Meteora Thrones was a very good choice. The tour was well managed and gave me a very good overview and valuable information about place. The communication with the travel agency staff was also very good, fast and helpful. Price for tour was also affordable. Everybody who is able to sit for several hours in bus and able to climb a few dozen steps up and down can complete this route. I wanted to visit the Meteora monasteries for a long time. And I was not disappointed. That place is magical, the monasteries, the surroundings with their strangely shaped rock formations, simply everything. Even the view of small town sitting beneath the towering rocks is very nice. I booked the tour with the lunch option, which turned out to be a good decision. There was a selection of several meals, and even though the restaurant was quite crowded at the time, everything was handled quickly. Then the exploration of the area began. We visited three monasteries (Agios Nikolaos, Varlaam, Saint Stefanos) and made several stops at breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the monasteries and the Meteora region. Our guide provided us with a good portion of information about each monastery. Since he has been living in Kalambaka for a long time, his knowledge was extensive. The monasteries attract large numbers of tourists, so it’s necessary to be prepared for a several minutes’ wait at the entrance, but it was manageable. We had enough time to explore each monastery. However, for a deeper experience, I would recommend staying there for at least one additional night. I stayed for two nights. 🙂

A truly wonderful day out with friends and family - We travelled from Athens on 29th March 2026 to Meteora and our guide from Kalabaka was Clement from Canada and we would like to commend him for his excellent professional job throughout our trip. He was leading the group, providing his information about Meteora and he explained passionately about the history and significance of Meteora. His time keeping was excellent and he was empathic to everyone in our group. We highly recommend him and wish him all the best going forward. Meteora Thrones have proved to be very professional travel and sightseeing provider and we will definitely use them again.

The best trip to go in Meterora - The best part of the Tour is the guide in Spanish Rula, who with the best humor and disposition is indicating the places of interest the times for each monastery and how to visit each site as well as the history of the place and the situation of the region, etc...

Its ok - The Meteora mountains were very impressive. Unfortunately, there was also a negative experience. Misleading information about the time spent on the road. It is not 4 hours, but 6.5 hours one way and the same back. The booklet says that we will be in the mountains at 12.30, but we reached the lunch spot at 14.30. Therefore, we were only in 2 monasteries, which we had to walk around in running mode. We could not fully surrender to the beauty that was there. The last stops were already in complete darkness. I understand that the roads were blocked, but they should have announced it in advance. We arrived back in Athens at 12.00 at night. It was very tiring. And yes - there was no WiFi on the bus. The driver said that it was simply blocked. We are a little disappointed..
