• Propylaea - The Propylaea served as the grand entrance to the Acropolis of Athens and was one of several public works commissioned by the Athenian leader Pericles to rebuild the Acropolis a generation after the Persian Wars.
• Parthenon - The Parthenon, the main temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena, stands as an eternal symbol of Athenian Democracy and Western civilization. This architectural masterpiece showcases the pinnacle of human spirit and genius, an open embrace awaiting the return of its renowned sister marbles.
• Erechtheion - The Erechtheion is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens, dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon.
• Temple of Athena Nike - The Temple of Athena Nike, located on the Acropolis of Athens, is dedicated to the goddesses Athena and Nike. Constructed around 420 BC, it is the earliest fully Ionic temple on the Acropolis. Positioned prominently on a steep bastion at the southwest corner of the Acropolis, to the right of the entrance, the Propylaea. Unlike the Acropolis proper, a walled sanctuary entered through the Propylaea, the Victory Sanctuary was open, accessed from the Propylaea’s southwest wing and a narrow stair on the north. The bastion’s sheer walls were protected on the north, west, and south by the Nike Parapet, named for its frieze of Nikai celebrating victory and sacrificing to their patronesses, Athena and Nike.
• Herod Atticus Odeon - The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stone Roman theater structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. Completed in 161 AD, it was renovated in 1950.
• Theater of Dionysus - The Theatre of Dionysus is an ancient Greek theatre in Athens, built on the south slope of the Acropolis hill, originally part of the sanctuary of Dionysus Eleuthereus. The first orchestra terrace was constructed on the site around the mid- to late-sixth century BC, hosting the City Dionysia. The theatre reached its fullest extent in the fourth century BC under the epistates of Lycurgus, with a capacity of up to 17,000, and was in continuous use until the Roman period. It fell into decay during the Byzantine era and was not identified, excavated, and restored to its current condition until the nineteenth century.
• Temple of Olympian Zeus - After visiting the Acropolis, proceed to the Temple of Zeus, the largest in antiquity, dedicated to the King of the Gods, via Hadrian’s Arch. Between the Acropolis and the Ilisos River lie the remains of the Olympian Zeus Temple (now known as the Pillars of Olympian Zeus), one of Athens’ most significant and ancient shrines. The site still imparts a sense of grandeur to visitors.
• Panathenaic Stadium - Continue to the magnificent Panathenaic Stadium, the venue of the first modern Olympic games, constructed from Pentelic marble, where the Olympic ideals continue to resonate today.
• Mount Lycabettus - After leaving the beautiful Calimarmaro behind, drive up to Lycabettus Hill to enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the city and admire the blend of ancient and modern Athens from above. Then, move into the historical center of the city and ascend the highest hill of Athens, Lycabettus Hill, for the best panoramic view of the city, from the Acropolis hill to the Aegean Sea.
• Syntagma - Syntagma Square (Constitution Square) is the central square of Athens. Named after the Constitution that Otto, the first King of Greece, was compelled to grant following a popular and military uprising on 3 September 1843, it is located in front of the 19th-century Old Royal Palace, which has housed the Greek Parliament since 1934. Syntagma Square is the most significant square of modern Athens from both a historical and social perspective, at the heart of commercial activity and Greek politics. The name Syntagma also refers to the neighborhood surrounding the square.
• Hellenic Parliament - The Hellenic Parliament is the parliament of Greece, situated in the Old Royal Palace, overlooking Syntagma Square in Athens. The Parliament is the supreme democratic institution representing citizens through an elected body of Members of Parliament. View the national guards and the monument of the unknown soldier. • Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a war memorial located in Syntagma Square in Athens, in front of the Old Royal Palace. It is a cenotaph dedicated to Greek soldiers who died in war. Sculpted between 1930 and 1932 by sculptor Fokion Rok, the tomb is guarded by the Evzones of the Presidential Guard.
• The Academy of Athens - The Academy of Athens is Greece’s national academy and the highest research establishment in the country. The Academy Building is one of three parts in an “architectural trilogy.” It was founded with the Constitutional Decree of March 18th, 1926, as an Academy of Sciences, Humanities, and Fine Arts.
• National and Kapodistrian University of Athens - The University of Athens has been in continuous operation since its establishment in 1837 and is the oldest higher education institution of the modern Greek state and the first contemporary university in both the Balkan Peninsula and the Eastern Mediterranean. Today, it is one of the largest universities by enrollment in Europe, with over 69,000 registered students. The University of Athens was founded on 3 May 1837 by King Otto of Greece and was named in his honor, Othonian University. It was the first university in the liberated Greek state and in the surrounding area of Southeast Europe as well.
• National Library Of Greece - The National Library of Greece was built at the end of the 19th century, as the last of the Architectural Trilogy of Athens, a group of three neoclassical buildings which also includes the Academy and the University.
• National History Museum (Old Parliament) - The Old Parliament House on Stadiou Street in Athens housed the Greek Parliament between 1875 and 1935. It now houses the country’s National Historical Museum.
