- Plaka - Nestled beneath the Acropolis and its historic temples, the charming Plaka neighborhood exudes a village-like atmosphere. Its narrow cobblestone streets are lined with quaint shops offering jewelry, clothing, and local ceramics. Sidewalk cafes and family-owned tavernas remain open late into the night, while Cine Paris screens classic films outdoors. Nearby, the whitewashed houses of the Anafiotika area lend a Greek-island ambiance to this small enclave.
- Monument of the Unknown Soldier - Situated in Syntagma Square in Athens, in front of the Old Royal Palace, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier serves as a war memorial. This cenotaph honors Greek soldiers who perished in war and was sculpted by Fokion Rok between 1930 and 1932. The tomb is vigilantly guarded by the Evzones of the Presidential Guard.
- Roman Agora - Once the bustling market area during Roman times, the Roman Agora covered a much larger expanse than its current boundaries. While much can be observed from outside the fence, entering offers a closer view of the well-preserved Gate of Athena Archegetis, the propylaeum (entrance gate) to the market, an Ottoman mosque, and the remarkable Tower of the Winds on the site’s eastern side.
- Tower of the Winds - Known by various names, the Tower of the Winds is an octagonal structure made of Pentelic marble located in the Roman Agora in Athens. It is named for the eight large reliefs of wind gods adorning its top.
- Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens - The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Annunciation, commonly referred to as the Metropolis or Mitropoli (Greek: Μητρόπολη, romanized: Mitrόpoli), serves as the cathedral church for the Archbishopric of Athens and all of Greece.
- Syntagma Square - As the central square of Athens, Greece, Syntagma Square is named after the Constitution that King Otto, Greece’s first monarch, was compelled to grant following a popular and military uprising on September 3, 1843. It is located in front of the 19th-century Old Royal Palace, which has housed the Greek Parliament since 1934.
- Panathinaiko Stadio - The Panathenaic Stadium, also known as Kallimarmaro, is a versatile stadium in Athens, Greece. It stands as one of Athens’ key historical attractions and is the only stadium worldwide constructed entirely of marble.
- Arch of Hadrian (Hadrian’s Gate) - Commonly referred to as Hadrian’s Gate, the Arch of Hadrian is a monumental gateway that bears some resemblance to a Roman triumphal arch. It spanned an ancient road leading from the center of Athens, Greece, to the eastern city’s complex of structures, including the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

Great tour to explore the real Athens! - Lovely walking tour with great guide. We met at the office of AW at 8:30 and we started the exploration of the city and some hidden parts. Highlights was the Ancient Agora and the Cathedral of the city. This combination of Hittorf better the Ancient Athens and the Christian modern city leaves you with a great taste of the city history.
When in Athens do not skip this tour.

A must walking tour to see what Athens offers - Amazing guide - If you’re planning to explore Athens, the Athens Highlights Walking Touris an absolute must—and having Dimos as your guide will make it unforgettable!
Dimos is hands down the best guide I’ve ever had. His passion for Athens and its history is contagious, and his storytelling brings the city to life in a way that no guidebook ever could. He masterfully blends ancient history with modern-day Athens, making every stop along the tour both fascinating and engaging.
What sets Dimos apart is his ability to tailor the experience to the group, answering questions with a wealth of knowledge and a warm, friendly demeanor. He takes you beyond the well-trodden tourist spots, uncovering hidden gems and sharing insights that make you feel like a local.
From strolling through charming neighborhoods to discovering breathtaking views of the Acropolis from lesser-known angles, every moment of the tour was captivating. Dimos’s enthusiasm and expertise made this walking tour not just a highlight of my trip to Athens but one of the best guided experiences I’ve ever had.
Highly, highly recommended—this tour (and Dimos!) deserves all the stars!
