- Acropolis - The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel situated on a rocky hill above Athens, featuring the remains of several historically and architecturally significant ancient buildings, most notably the Parthenon. The term acropolis is derived from the Greek words ἄκρον and πόλις.
- Parthenon - The Parthenon is a former temple on the Athenian Acropolis in Greece, dedicated to the goddess Athena, revered as the patroness by the Athenians. Its construction began in 447 BC during the height of the Delian League’s power.
- Temple of Athena Nike - The Temple of Athena Nike is located on the Acropolis of Athens and is dedicated to the goddesses Athena and Nike. Constructed around 420 BC, it is the earliest fully Ionic temple on the Acropolis.
- Tower of the Winds - The Tower of the Winds, also known as the Horologion of Andronikos Kyrrhestes, is an octagonal Pentelic marble clocktower in the Roman Agora in Athens, serving as a horologion or “timepiece.” It is recognized as the world’s first meteorological station. Unofficially, it is also called Aerides (Greek: Αέρηδες), meaning Winds. The structure includes sundials, a water clock, and a wind vane. Designed by Andronicus of Cyrrhus around 50 BC, it may have been built in the 2nd century BC before the rest of the forum. Restoration work was carried out by the Athens Ephorate of Antiquities between 2014 and 2016.
- Monastiraki - Located in the heart of Athens, this square is known for its vibrant atmosphere and significant historical importance.
- Plaka - Nestled in the shadow of the Acropolis and its ancient temples, the hillside area of Plaka offers a village-like ambiance with narrow cobblestone streets lined with small shops selling jewelry, clothing, and local ceramics. Sidewalk cafes and family-run tavernas remain open until late, and Cine Paris screens classic movies outdoors. Nearby, the whitewashed homes of the Anafiotika neighborhood provide a Greek-island feel to the small enclave.
- Roman Agora - The Roman Agora was constructed approximately 100 meters east of the original agora by Eucles of Marathon between 27 BC and 17 BC (or possibly in 10 BC), funded by Augustus, fulfilling a promise made by Julius Caesar in 51 BC. Although not fully excavated today, it is known to have been an open space surrounded by a peristyle. To the south was a fountain, and to the east, behind a marble colonnade, were shops and an Ionic propylaeum (entrance), the Gate of Athena Archegetis. To the west was a Doric gate, the East Propylon, next to the Tower of the Winds and a set of “vespasianae” (public toilets). An inscription notes the presence of an Agoranomion (an office for market officials). The Fethiye Mosque was constructed to the north during the Ottoman period.
