Day 1: Marrakesh – Dades Gorges
Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - Begin your journey with an 8 AM departure from your hotel or riad in Marrakesh, heading across the High Atlas Mountains. After passing through the Tichka pass, divert from the main road to visit the Telouet Kasbah, once owned by the Glaoui family, the Lords of the Atlas. This kasbah now stands in ruins after the last Pasha left the country following the French departure. Continue along a newly constructed, scenic road to enjoy lunch at Ait Ben Haddou, the most renowned Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage site, which you can explore post-lunch. The journey continues past Ouarzazate to the Skoura Oasis, where numerous ancient kasbahs, some unfortunately in ruins, are nestled among palm trees. The route then leads through Kela’a M’gouna, the Valley of Roses, with a stop to explore locally-made cosmetic products from the valley’s abundant roses. The day concludes with a stay at a guest house in the Dades gorge.
Day 2: Dades Gorges – Merzouga
Tinghir - After breakfast, enjoy a walk by the river before heading to Toudgha to explore the distinct gorges there. Lunch will be served either in the gorges or later at the bivouac near the Erg Chebbi dunes. Travel through the Ziz Valley and the towns of Erfoud and Rissani, the latter being the origin of the king’s family. In the afternoon, after a welcoming glass of tea, embark on a camel ride lasting one to two hours in the Sahara. Witness the breathtaking sunset from the top of the 250m dunes, followed by dinner and an overnight stay in a nomad tent at the base of the dunes.
Day 3: Merzouga – Marrakesh
Agdz - Rise early to witness the stunning sunrise, where the colors of the dunes and the interplay of shadows create a mesmerizing view. The return journey west to the Dra’a Valley takes you along the Saghro mountains, passing through the villages of Tazzarine (featured in the film ‘Babel’) and N’Qob, where lunch is enjoyed with a view of the mountains. In the afternoon, travel to Tanasikht to reach the Dra’a Valley, rich with large palm trees and ancient kasbahs. Follow the ancient caravan route to Agdez, visiting the oldest kasbah in the valley, Kasbah Tamnougalte, before heading directly to Marrakesh for a drop-off at your accommodation.
