- Temple of Philae - Originally located on Philae Island south of Aswan, the Temple of Philae, also known as the Temple of Isis, was submerged for several months each year following the construction of the high dam. Consequently, between 1977 and 1980, the temple was relocated to the nearby island of Agilika. In 553 AD, the temple was converted into a church, resulting in the destruction of many of its reliefs.
- Aswan High Dam - Initiated by President Nasser, the construction of the Aswan High Dam took place from 1960 to 1971, resulting in one of the world’s largest reservoirs, measuring 500 km in length and 32 km at its widest point. The dam itself is over 3800 meters long and 111 meters high, with a base width of 980 meters and a crown width of approximately 40 meters.
- Abu Simbel - The two temples at Abu Simbel were commissioned by Ramses II in 1260 BC and remained buried under sand until 1817, when they were uncovered by the Italian explorer Belzoni. The Temple of Ramses extends 60 meters into the rock and stands 30 meters tall, while the Temple of Nefertari is 21 meters deep and 12 meters high. To protect them from flooding caused by the reservoir, both temples were relocated 62 meters higher between 1964 and 1968.

Exploring Aswan, Abu Simbel and Nubian culture shows you a beautiful and unforgettable side of Egypt - We had an amazing two day trip from Hurghada to Aswan with stay in the Moevenpick on Elephantine Island. It was a long drive but our driver Mohamad was excellent. We even managed to have an additional overnight stay because Aswan is so beautiful. Our knowledgeable and inspiring guide Abanoub showed us the Unfinished Obelisk, the Great Dam and wonderful Philae temple. The additional light show is a must! A great experience to explore a different side and hear the story. Abu Simbel is an additional 3 hour drive but more than worth the experience. It is breathtaking from the inside and outside and immerses yourself in a different time. Abanoub explained the story and depictions in the two temples very well and took great pics. On the way back we see Kom Ombo. The trip allows you to see a different, more rural and authentic side of Egypt. If you can take some more time in Aswan tonight explore the old souk. Spending two nights in Aswan really makes a difference! A fantastic trip!

Longest Road Trip Ever - When I booked this tour, nothing could have prepared me for how challenging it was going to be. It was a great scenic trip in theory but a ridiculously long journey when we set out. Basem and Michael were super efficient in keeping my spirits up and keeping me informed as I made my way to Abu Simbel for the for the first time. I enjoyed the road trip nonetheless but I recommend air travel for this trip instead.
