Great half day tour to the Aswan dam and Philae Temple - We found the tour interesting, especially the High Dam but enjoyed the contrast including Philae Temple.
Our guide was knowledgeable and explained things carefully.
The driver was safe and the vehicle was comfortable.

His English was very good and he explained everything to us in an easily understandable way and included us in his explanations which was great fun. He has a strong passion for Egypt and its history, he provided many interesting facts along these lines.

Philae with Moataz - We were very lucky to have Moataz Salah as our guide today.
He met us in the reception of our ship and gave us some great information during our journey.
We found Moataz had great knowledge and delivered it in a very fun way that included ourselves in his demonstrations and explanations which was great.
We fully recommend Moataz as a tour guide and we will be booking Moataz again when we return.
What a great day!

Pleasant afternoon with Mohamed. - Mohamed was our driver and took us to the Dam stopping to take pictures of the monument nearby. He explained us a few details about the Dam which was nice. He took us to Philae Temple and waited for us when we were back. He was kind and professional all the way. I recommend this short tour as a good option if you have half a day in Aswan.

Excellent Guide, Flexible Service - Skip the High Dam - Our guide Mohamed Salah was outstanding and made this tour a wonderful experience for our family of 6.
Mohamed went above and beyond from the start. The tour company told us to meet at the city-side dock, but he took the motorboat across to our Movenpick Resort hotel dock to pick us up directly. When my niece wasn't feeling well and only wanted to see Philae Temple, he immediately adjusted the schedule to go there first.
At Philae, Mohamed paid for all entrance fees upfront (we settled later) and even negotiated the motorboat to the island down to 500 EGP. His knowledge of the temple history was thorough and he took us to different areas while taking photos of our group throughout.
After the temple visit, Mohamed did something memorable on the boat ride back. He filled a water bottle directly from the Nile and drank it, explaining how clean and fresh the water is there. He encouraged us to try but we politely declined. My sons (despite our objections) took small sips. We were worried they'd get sick but thankfully they were fine. Mohamed told them it was a sign they would return to Egypt.
When we headed to the High Dam, Mohamed arranged for a secondary driver to meet my sister and niece en route and take them back to the hotel since my niece was not feeling well. The secondary driver was also very nice, showing them sites along the way and staying in touch with Mohamed about their safe arrival. He even noticed my niece left her headphones in the car and brought them back to the hotel later. Both were very grateful for the kindness.
About the High Dam: This part was honestly unimpressive. We saw the Soviet statue (gift for helping build the dam) and looked at both sides, but spent maybe 15 minutes there. My son was disappointed there wasn't a small tour explaining how the dam actually operates. I'd recommend skipping this part of the tour entirely and spending more time at Philae or other sites.
After the tour, I settled all entrance fees in cash with Mohamed. I also asked if the driver could take us to dinner at the Old Cataract that evening, and he immediately agreed. Mohamed started a WhatsApp group so we could coordinate with the driver and checked on us throughout the night to make sure everything went smoothly.
Mohamed has a clear passion for Aswan and genuine warmth toward visitors. His flexibility, knowledge, and willingness to go the extra mile made this tour special. Just ask to skip the High Dam and spend that time elsewhere.
Highly recommend Mohamed Salah as a guide!

Unique combination of ancient and modern history in Aswan - Overall, this was a good visit that my wife and I had with our tour guide Omar. His knowledge of the Philae temple and its history is extensive for those who like and enjoy history as he had clearly done his homework. Did you know, for example that the temple has history involving not only the Egyptians but also the Romans, early Christians, and even French, and that it was submerged under water for decades? He was also knowledgeable about the high dam, including the unique history behind the first dam, the political ramifications when the high dam was added decades ago, and how it continues to shape Egypt’s history. Combining these two places of dam and temple is interesting as they are so very different sites. Omar was patient and waited on us when we wanted to see anything in particular, we got some good coffee and snacks.
If there is any small critique, I would say two small things some might want to do differently. First is I think it might have been nice to walk to and see the friendship tower on top of the Aswan High Dam, but it technically wasn’t part of the tour. Second, towards the end you are taken to an oil and incense shop… while getting anything is optional and you are told to not feel pressured, the performance put on by the place is extensive, such that *if you’re a group of only two* as we were, you feel odd not getting anything (at least if you hail from a western background like me). They were nice enough though, and not pushy, and some would like the product… it’s just beyond what I was looking for such that I would prefer that part of the tour being optional. My wife did willingly wish to buy something here though and enjoyed, and pointed out that had Omar not taken her there she never would have visited it.
Omar was not pushy, he had great English and a love for Aswan that was enjoyable to be around, was a good conversationalist, and I would definitely use him again for any tourism needs in Aswan.

Needs improvement. - Even though the guide did his job well, we all felt he could use some training in how to interact with the customers. It was difficult to understand his fast paced accent as well.

The locations are... - The locations are beautiful, attractive and provide a sense of relaxation.
The locals of Aswan were helpful. I have given 3 stars for the guide as he was just giving an overview and not detailed understanding of the sites. It was day-3 of our trip and expectations with respect to guidance were already high from Cairo so didnt enjy much
