Unfinished Obelisk - The unfinished obelisk is the largest known ancient obelisk and is situated in the northern area of the stone quarries of ancient Egypt in Aswan, Egypt. It was thoroughly studied by Reginald Engelbach in 1922. The obelisk and the broader quarry were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979, along with other examples of Upper Egyptian architecture, as part of the “Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae” (despite the quarry site being neither Nubian nor located between Abu Simbel and Philae).

Aswan High Dam - The Aswan Dam, also known as the Aswan High Dam, ranks among the world’s largest embankment dams, constructed across the Nile in Aswan, Egypt, between 1960 and 1970. Upon completion, it became the tallest earthen dam globally, surpassing the Chatuge Dam in the United States. The dam, which formed the Lake Nasser reservoir, was built 7 km (4.3 mi) upstream of the Aswan Low Dam, completed in 1902 and already at its maximum capacity. Building the High Dam was a primary goal of the military regime that assumed power after the 1952 Egyptian Revolution. With its capacity to better manage flooding, provide increased water storage for irrigation, and generate hydroelectricity, the dam was considered crucial to Egypt’s planned industrialization. Like its predecessor, the High Dam has significantly impacted Egypt’s economy and culture.
