Aswan Excursion with Nubian Village on Soheil Island
Temple of Philae - Enjoy a private tour to discover the Philae Temple. This temple was meticulously relocated to its current position (approximately 500 meters from its original site) due to the rising Nile waters caused by the construction of the High Dam. A brief motorboat journey will take you to the island, where your guide will lead you on a walking tour through the temple, followed by some free time for you to explore independently.
Dedicated to the goddess Isis, Philae Temple is beautifully situated on an island in the river, landscaped to resemble its original location. It features various shrines and sanctuaries celebrating the deities involved in the myth of Isis and Osiris.
Aswan High Dam - Next, visit the High Dam to witness a modern Egyptian achievement, constructed over ten years from 1960 to 1970. View Lake Nasser, the second-largest artificial lake in the world, and cross the friendship emblem.
Nubian Village - Experiencing Nubian culture up close is truly delightful. The Nubian village in Aswan is known for its uniquely colorful painted houses, simple yet comfortable living standards, and friendly, smiling residents. You can reach the Nubian village by Nile boats, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the Nile River and the islands you pass. At the Nubian Village, you will appreciate the simplicity and tranquility. You can enter Nubian houses, take photos with crocodiles, and explore numerous places to buy souvenirs, Nubian handicrafts, and aromatic herbs.
Explore the Magnificent Temples of Abu Simbel - Travel to Luxor by Train
Abu Simbel Temple Complex - Depart from Aswan early in the morning (pick-up between 4:00 and 4:15 AM) to join an escorted convoy leaving Aswan around 5:00 AM. This timing allows you to see the temples in the light of the rising sun, followed by a guided tour with an Egyptologist and some free time before returning to Aswan (approximately a 3-hour drive each way, with about 2 hours at the temples).
The temples built by Ramses II at Abu Simbel are a highlight of Egypt, with a fascinating history accompanying their impressive size. When Lake Nasser was flooded, the water level threatened to submerge several temples, including Abu Simbel. Consequently, the temple was completely dismantled and reconstructed further up the hillside, where it stands today. This temple is a testament to Ramses II, the ancient Egyptians’ architectural prowess, and modern engineering.
Later, catch an evening train to Luxor. Upon arrival in Luxor, a driver will pick you up from the station and take you to your hotel on the East Bank.
Luxor Visits (East and West Bank of Luxor) - End of Service
Valley of the Kings - Visit the Valley of the Kings, the burial site of the kings of Thebes (ancient Luxor). There will be a brief stop at the visitors’ center. If you wish to visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun, an additional fee is required.
Temple of Hatshepsut - Explore the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of Egypt’s most striking monuments. Your guide will introduce you to the temple’s history and the story of Queen Hatshepsut, the renowned female ruler of Egypt who assumed a male persona to ascend the throne. Enjoy free time to wander the expansive courtyards and admire the intricate hieroglyphic decorations.
Colossi of Memnon - Visit the Colossi of Memnon, marking the site of Amenhotep III’s funerary temple. These two towering statues on the West Bank are all that remain of the ancient complex.
Temple of Karnak - At the Temples of Karnak, walk along the Avenue of Sphinx to enter the complex as your guide explains the construction of the massive facade. Inside, you’ll see the legacies left by various pharaohs as the complex expanded. The deeper you venture, the further back in time you travel, with the oldest ruins dating over 3,000 years.
Walking through the Great Court into the Great Hypostyle Hall, you’ll be awed by the 134 towering columns resembling an ancient forest. At the rear of the complex, discover the sacred lake where pharaohs and their offerings to the gods were purified centuries ago. After the tour, enjoy additional free time to explore at your leisure.
Luxor Temple - Visit Luxor Temple, once connected to the Temples of Karnak by a two-kilometer-long Avenue of Sphinx, part of which marks the temple’s entrance. Dominated by statues of the great warrior pharaoh Ramses II, Luxor Temple has withstood Nile floods, foreign invasions, and centuries of exposure to the elements.
A quintessential Egyptian temple, its inner walls and columns are adorned with intricate hieroglyphics, which your guide will help you interpret. Learn how Alexander the Great inscribed himself into Luxor Temple’s history, and see one of the original pair of obelisks, the second of which now stands in Paris’s Place de la Concorde.
