- Cattedrale di San Rufino - This cathedral boasts the most enigmatic facade from medieval times, built atop the remnants of a Roman sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Cupra or Bona Mater. Remnants of a Roman road that connected with the Forum Square, which will be visited next.
- Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d’Assisi - Finally, the tour reaches the medieval heart of Assisi. The remains of the great Saint Francis are interred here, and it is the birthplace of Italian visual culture. The basilica features over 10,000 square meters of mural paintings. The most renowned artists of the late 13th and early 14th centuries gathered in this magnificent building, which illustrates the daily life of those years: the fashion, the appearance of houses and palaces, and even the language of hands and gestures expressing emotions such as sadness, anger, despair, gratitude, wisdom, and protection. It is a true chronicle of the human condition. Please note: On Sundays and holidays, explanations of the Basilica are given from outside, and entry is free.
- Chiesa di Santa Margherita - The tour will pass through the streets of the upper part of Assisi, where the city’s female monasteries were concentrated, and reach the viewpoint in front of the small church of Santa Margherita. The view extends into the green landscape, where olive trees and cypresses blend into the forests surrounding Assisi.
- Palazzo Monte Frumentario - Once a pilgrims’ hotel and public granary of the city, it now serves as an exhibition center.
- Piazza del Comune - The tour concludes back at Piazza del Comune.
