- Assisi - Assisi is renowned as the birthplace of St. Francis, who established the Franciscan religious order in 1208, and St. Clare, the founder of the Poor Sisters. Saint Francis of Assisi was born in Assisi on September 26, 1182. He founded the Order named after him and is honored as a Saint by the Catholic Church. He passed away on October 3, 1226. Two years later, on July 16, 1228, he was canonized as a Saint by Pope Gregory IX. In 1939, Pope Pius XII declared him the “Patron Saint of Italy.” He is also affectionately known as the “Poor Man of Assisi,” and his tomb attracts thousands of devoted visitors annually. Assisi, due to its famous resident, has become a symbol of peace, especially after hosting significant interfaith meetings promoted by John Paul II in 1986 and 2002, and Benedict XVI in 2011. Today, St. Francis of Assisi is one of the most beloved and respected saints worldwide.
- Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d’Assisi - The church of St. Francis of Assisi stands on the site where the Saint chose to be buried. Admission is included. Assisi is a sacred city for Christians and a timeless destination for pilgrims eager to visit the places where Saint Francis was born, worked, and died. In this small town, nestled on the slopes of Mount Subasio, everything seems to relate to the Saint, even if only distantly connected to his life. Along with its surrounding area, Assisi was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, recognized as a unique example of continuous history: a city-sanctuary from its Umbrian-Roman origins, through the Medieval Age, to the present day.
- Basilica di Santa Chiara - The Basilica of St. Clare of Assisi, constructed with the distinctive pink stone from the Subasio mountain quarry, houses valuable frescoes dating from the 12th to the 14th century.
- Campello sul Clitunno - Gourmet Lunch & Wine included: Amidst beautiful olive groves and green hills, away from the bustling town center, the restaurant welcomes guests with elegance and hospitality, adding a unique color and aroma to the culinary experience. From seasonal products to local specialties, including exclusive truffle-cured meats and the rich flavor and aroma of the prized local extra virgin EVO olive oils, guests will savor the finest interpretations of the area’s traditional cuisine. Naturally, all dishes are paired with excellent wine. At the end, return to the ship.
