- Al Salt - Begin your journey with a hotel pick-up in Amman, traveling in a private leisure vehicle with an English-speaking driver who also serves as your guide. Head north to the historic city of As-Salt, a UNESCO World Heritage site that was once considered as a potential capital of Jordan. Nestled on hills, As-Salt was governed by the Romans and Byzantines before flourishing under Ottoman rule from the 1890s to the 1920s. Today, it is a place where Christian and Muslim communities coexist peacefully, with mosques and churches standing side by side. Meet a local guide and embark on the “Harmony Trail” to experience the unique interreligious harmony and coherence within As-Salt’s neighborhoods. The longstanding mosques and churches reflect the city’s unity and community spirit.
- Abu Jaber Museum - As you follow the trail, observe the Islamic and Christian symbols and inscriptions that adorn the architecture of old homes and places of worship. Explore downtown As-Salt and begin your journey at the Historic Old As-Salt Museum, located in the Abu Jaber House, a stunning mansion that represents the city’s prosperity at the end of the 19th century. This mansion has been transformed into the Historical Old Salt Museum, which showcases the city’s golden age.
- Al-Salt - Continue to Al Ain Plaza, As-Salt’s historic downtown area, surrounded by Hammam Street, Al-Eskafyeh, and Al-Khayateen stairs. Enjoy watching locals play Mangaleh, a popular game in As-Salt passed down through generations. Visit the Great Mosque, originally built in the 13th century and reconstructed in 2007 in Al Ain Plaza, the city’s center, blending modern and traditional architecture. As a town that values interfaith coexistence, the mosque’s stairs lead to the Church of the Good Shepherd. Walk towards The English Complex, established in 1849, which served as a hub for various activities, including a school for children, Jordan’s first hospital, the Church of the Good Shepherd, and a school for religious lessons.
- Al Salt - The complex provided care during the world wars, Palestinian revolutions, and the significant earthquake of 1927. Visit the iconic houses of Fatima Al Zoubi or Al Adham, offering a home experience of Neighborhoods & Gardens built in 1864, showcasing As-Salt’s urban economic development. Owned by one of As-Salt’s prominent families, the house has been donated to As-Salt Greater Municipality for use as the headquarters for the As-Salt City Development Project. Continue to Al-Khader Orthodox Church, a highly visited site in As-Salt. Located at the end of Al-Khader Street, a winding road with various shops, this church was originally built in an ancient cave in 1682.
- Al Khader Orthodox Church - Al-Khader Church is a place where both Christians and Muslims are welcome to pray. Proceed to the Small Mosque, the oldest standing mosque in As-Salt, constructed in the early 20th century. Situated at the end of Al-Hammam Street, the mosque was built by mason Haj Suleiman Abu Al Hosson between 1905-1907, funded entirely by local community donations. Continue to the Roman Catholic Church and School, the first private school in As-Salt, welcoming both Muslim and Christian students and teachers. Enjoy free time to explore local independent shops, stroll through markets, and purchase souvenirs (at your own expense). Optional lunch at a local restaurant: City Balcony, Al Gherbal, or Beit Aziz; or experience a homemade meal for an authentic taste. The tour concludes with a hotel drop-off in Amman.
- Prophet Shoaib Shrine - Upgrade: Opt for an additional visit to the Islamic shrines of Prophet Yusha’ and Shuaib for a spiritually enriching experience at an extra cost.
