A Journey into the Heart of Colorado’s Wilderness

As a biologist and environmental activist, my heart beats for the wild, untamed corners of our planet. When I heard about Birding Man Adventures, I knew I had to experience it for myself. The promise of a personalized wildlife tour, guided by a naturalist, was too enticing to resist. I packed my bags and headed to Arvada, Colorado, eager to immerse myself in the majestic landscapes and diverse wildlife of the Rocky Mountains.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by Ryan Dibala, our guide for the adventure. His passion for wildlife and conservation was immediately evident, and I felt an instant connection. Our small group, consisting of just four guests, set off on a journey that promised to be both educational and awe-inspiring. As we ventured into the heart of Estes Park, the crisp mountain air filled my lungs, and I felt a profound sense of peace and anticipation.

The Dance of the High Elevation Birds

Our mission was clear: to spot some of the most elusive high elevation birds in the region. With Ryan’s expert guidance, we embarked on a quest to find species like the White-tailed Ptarmigan, Brown-capped and Gray-crowned Rosy-finch, and the Greater Sage-Grouse. Each sighting was a triumph, a testament to Ryan’s deep knowledge and understanding of the local ecology.

The mountains were alive with the sounds of nature, and I found myself lost in the beauty of it all. As a photographer, I was in heaven, capturing the vibrant colors and intricate details of each bird we encountered. Ryan’s patience and expertise allowed us to take our time, ensuring we could document these moments to share with others and inspire a love for wildlife conservation.

Embracing the Unexpected

Nature is unpredictable, and our journey was no exception. As the weather shifted, bringing fog and snow, Ryan’s adaptability shone through. He navigated the mountain roads with ease, ensuring our safety and comfort at all times. When road closures threatened to derail our plans, he quickly devised alternative routes, leading us to the stunning landscapes of Wyoming.

Each day was a new adventure, filled with delicious meals, warm coffee brewed over a campfire, and the camaraderie of fellow nature enthusiasts. Ryan’s dedication to providing a memorable experience was evident in every detail, from the crampons he provided for icy trails to the eBird checklists he meticulously prepared. By the end of our three-day journey, we had spotted over 95 species, each one a reminder of the incredible biodiversity that exists in these wild places.
