As you enter the park, your guide will open the roof for an enhanced viewing experience. Tarangire is renowned for having the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. You may also encounter giraffes, buffaloes, lions, zebras, wildebeests, and various antelopes and gazelles. Serengeti National Park - Enjoy an early breakfast as a day full of exploration and adventure awaits! The day begins with a scenic drive towards the Serengeti. En route, you will pass through the misty rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you might spot cape buffalo, baboons, or even elephants and leopards in the dense foliage. The drive to the Serengeti park gates takes nearly four hours, but you have the option to break up the journey with one or both of the following optional activities at an additional cost:
Olduvai Gorge Museum: Often referred to as the Cradle of Mankind, the Olduvai Gorge Museum showcases some of the oldest evidence of human habitation ever discovered. Here, you can view ancient fossil evidence of human habitation, learn about the human journey at the Olduvai Gorge Museum, and enjoy the breathtaking views of this stark gorge landscape.
Olduvai Gorge Museum - The Olduvai Gorge Site Museum is located six kilometers from the main road junction, where the Zinjanthropus monument stands on the way to Serengeti National Park. The Museum is situated at the edge of the Gorge’s bank, overlooking the famous rock castle in the Gorge’s midsection, at the confluence of the side and mini gorge river valleys. Positioned on the rim of the Gorge, 5 kilometers beyond the monument, at the intersection of the main Gorge and the side gorge, it is one of the few onsite museums. This Museum offers extensive archaeological and cultural exhibits directly related to the Gorge, as well as research on the Gorge’s history, discoveries, and overall history to the present day.
Central Serengeti – Serengeti North (Kogatende Region):
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you will drive across the plains of Togoro and through the Mbuzi Mawe kopjes (small hills) as you journey into the park’s northern reaches. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to admire the Serengeti’s diverse scenery, passing through wooded hills, tumbledown kopjes, and the vast open savannah. Your drive will reveal everything from the tiny dik-dik to towering elephants and giraffes. Upon reaching the Kogatende region, you’ll search for both the Wildebeest Migration and the renowned Big Five. Overnight stay at Heritage Mara Tented Camp on a Full Board basis.
Full Day at Serengeti North (Kogatende Region):
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, embark on a game drive around the Kogatende area, exploring the kopjes in search of carnivores and the large migration groups preparing to cross the Mara River into Kenya. The Mara River, home to numerous hippos and Nile crocodiles, is the last major obstacle for the Wildebeest Migration before reaching the relative safety of the Masai Mara.
With patience and a bit of luck, you might witness the dramatic crossing itself, where wildebeest and zebras brave the river’s currents and crocodiles to reach safety on the opposite bank. Dinner and overnight stay in the heart of the Serengeti National Park, according to the standard and type of accommodation requested from our options.
Kogatende Region – Ngorongoro Conservation Area:
Ngorongoro Conservation Area - After breakfast, set off on the road back towards the Ngorongoro Crater National Park. The drive takes you back through the Serengeti via a different route, offering ample opportunities to spot animals that may have eluded you earlier. As far as the eye can see, you’ll observe thousands of animals in herds; wildebeests and zebras migrating together, graceful giraffes, leaping antelopes and gazelles, the mighty African elephant, and the most revered group of animals: the predators. You may spot sleek cheetahs, elusive leopards, foraging hyenas, and the king himself; the lion.
Ngorongoro Crater Tour – Drive Back to Arusha:
Ngorongoro Crater - After an early breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Crater at 07:00 AM, often regarded as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Upon your first view of this vast, lush caldera from the panoramic viewpoint, you’ll quickly understand why it has earned such a prestigious reputation. Home to over 120 species of mammals, including the legendary Big Five, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the world’s most sought-after safari destinations. It’s an excellent place to see the endangered black rhinoceros enjoying a solitary meal on the grass plains, as well as large numbers of hippopotamus relishing the cool water. The crater hosts a significant number of predators, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas, along with a large population of wildebeest, zebras, antelope, Cape buffalo, and more. After the day’s excitement, enjoy a picnic lunch by the park’s famous hippo pool before returning to Arusha.
