Arrival in Arusha
Arusha - Welcome to Tanzania! Upon your arrival, a welcoming representative from Lappet Faced Safaris will greet you at the airport and escort you to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you’ll have the opportunity to relax and gear up for the amazing adventure ahead!
Arusha is a lively city and a key hub for safari adventures in northern Tanzania, making it a must-visit for most travelers. Be sure to enjoy this exciting starting point for your unforgettable journey!
Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park - After breakfast, your safari guide will meet you at your accommodation and drive you to Lake Manyara National Park. This relatively small yet diverse park is located 120km west of Arusha. The park’s namesake is a shallow salt lake that covers a significant portion of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons, and is home to thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species. During your exploration, you will encounter monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants, and, with some luck, lions resting in the trees. The park is renowned for its varied landscapes, featuring grassy plains, primate-filled woodlands, and baobab-dotted cliffs.
After an extensive game drive through the park, you will proceed to your nearby accommodations at one of our luxurious, mid-range partner lodges. Your lodging has been carefully chosen for quality. You can enjoy dining in a spacious restaurant, relaxing by the pool, and resting in a comfortable and roomy space.
Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you will continue towards the fertile highlands where the Iraqw people cultivate wheat, coffee, and corn. As you pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will witness the stunning Ngorongoro Crater before continuing to the Serengeti, which you will reach by midday.
Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania, featuring diverse landscapes and habitats such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannahs, and mountains. The largest wildebeest and zebra migration occurs here, and depending on the season, you may witness thousands of animals in search of food and water.
After an extensive game drive, you will head to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Today is dedicated entirely to game driving in Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is home to a wealth of wildlife, including impalas, buffaloes, crocodiles, and hippos, but is most famous for its great migrating herds of zebras and wildebeests. The animals’ journey is dictated by the rainfall and varies each year. In November and December, the animals move from the northern region, characterized by woodlands and hills, to the grassy plains of the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June, they return to the north. Besides the migrating herds, you might spot predators such as leopards, cheetahs, and lions, always lurking nearby.
Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - This will be your final day in the Serengeti, or the “endless plain” as it is known in Maa, the language of the local Maasai people. It is truly one of the most spectacular places on Earth. Continue to enjoy the wide array of animals and birds. By now, you will be an expert! Our guide will ensure you visit the best locations for game viewing.
This evening, enjoy a cocktail and reflect on the majesty of Africa during a relaxing sundowner experience.
Serengeti to Ngorongoro
Ngorongoro Crater - After an early breakfast, you will embark on another game drive in the Serengeti. You might spot the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard – before setting off for the Ngorongoro Crater. The animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves, offering an uninterrupted game viewing experience. Upon reaching the crater’s edge, you will catch your first glimpse of what awaits you the following day – sparkling streams, open grassland, and countless animals. You will have dinner and spend the night at one of our mid-range partner lodges.
Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu
Ngorongoro Crater - After a hearty breakfast, you will descend the adventurous track into the crater. This UNESCO World Heritage site, formed millions of years ago, is 610m deep and spans roughly 260 square kilometers. Due to its dense animal population of approximately 25,000, the crater offers the best game viewing of all the parks in Tanzania. In just a few minutes, you will see wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, elephants, and some of the more than 500 bird species native to the area. With a bit of luck, you might spot the endangered black rhino through the grass.
After lunch, you will ascend the steep walls of the crater and head to your accommodations at one of our carefully selected mid-range partner lodges in Karatu. You will dine in the expansive and tasteful restaurant, enjoy a swim in the pool, and make the most of your spacious room to dream of wild cats!
Karatu to Tarangire
Tarangire National Park - After breakfast, you will drive to your final destination on this epic safari: Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is renowned for its large elephant herds. From the open roof of the vehicle, you will experience the seasonal swamps, savannah, and Tarangire River in search of many animals, including zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants, and giraffes. You might even catch a glimpse of a lion stalking its prey or leopards relaxing in the trees above.
After an extensive game drive through the park, you will return to Arusha.
