Arrival in Arusha
Arusha - Upon arrival at the airport, a representative from Lappet Faced Safaris will greet you and transport you to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to unwind and gear up for an unforgettable adventure. Arusha is a bustling hub in northern Tanzania, integral to the safari experience, and most travelers pass through at some point.
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - After breakfast, your Lappet Faced Safari guide will pick you up from your accommodation. You will then embark on a drive to Tarangire National Park, which takes approximately two and a half hours on well-maintained tarmac roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, the sole water source for wildlife in the area during the dry season. The park is renowned for its elephant herds, often seen gathering by the river. You might also spot giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, along with predators like lions and leopards. Tarangire boasts more bird breeding species than anywhere else on Earth! The park is also home to ancient Baobab trees, some over a thousand years old. Lunch will be enjoyed at a picnic site within the park. After your game drive, you will head to your accommodation in Karatu.
Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Following breakfast, you will journey into the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The first sight of Ngorongoro Crater reveals a hidden world, with its steep volcanic walls enclosing a pristine wilderness of sweeping savannah, acacia woodlands, and shimmering lakes and swamps. Formed by a volcanic explosion and collapse two to three million years ago, the crater spans 260 km². It is celebrated for its geological wonders and as a natural reserve with some of the densest large mammal populations in Africa. Upon descending into the crater, you will encounter large herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. The crater offers the best chance to see the endangered black rhino. You will then travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti, entering from the south of the park.
Serengeti National Park to Karatu
Karatu - The Serengeti is truly magnificent, known for its vast open grasslands that provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The Serengeti’s climate and vegetation have remained largely unchanged for millions of years. While it is home to abundant wildlife, it is perhaps most famous for the annual Great Migration. Massive herds of wildebeest, along with zebras and antelopes, move in a yearly cycle, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The migration can be observed at any time of year; it’s just a matter of knowing where to look! The focus should be on the ‘best places’ to see the animals during specific times of the year. Besides the iconic landscapes, there is a good chance of spotting predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. It is a truly transformative experience. In the afternoon, you will begin your journey back to Karatu, hopefully encountering more wonders along the way!
Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
Lake Manyara National Park - After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small yet diverse park located 120km west of Arusha. Everything here is on a different scale, being both compact (one of Africa’s narrowest parks) and grand (the Great Rift Escarpment looms over Lake Manyara’s western boundary). The park’s namesake is a shallow salt lake that covers a significant portion of the park, fluctuating with the seasons and hosting thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other bird species. You may spot baboons and elephants in the park’s dense evergreen forest, and keep an eye out for the tree-climbing lions that have gained fame across Africa. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. After your game drive, you will bid farewell to your guide and be dropped off at a location of your choice, such as Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport. We hope you have had a wonderful adventure with Lappet Faced Safaris.
