Great day at Materuni and Chemka - A fantastic day visiting Materuni village, waterfall and then the Chemka hot springs. Our driver Hassan was very friemdly and the car very comfortable and with aircon. The company was flexible and picked us up in Arusha and dropped us at Kilimanjaro airport. Would recommend without hesitation.

Unforgettable day between jungle, coffee scent and adventure! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I had an absolutely great trip from Arusha to Materuni Village and Chemka Hot Springs (Maji Moto). The launch: My driver picked me up on time. Already on the way there was super interesting information about the country and the region – he was a great companion for the day! Materuni Village & Waterfall: The hike to the waterfall was wonderful. My guide knew every path and made the tour very pleasant. The setting at the waterfall itself is breathtaking! The subsequent coffee making was a real highlight: Witnessing the process from bean to cup (with singing and dancing from the locals) and tasting the fresh coffee was a great experience. Chemka Hot Springs: After the hike, the bath in the hot springs in Chemka was the perfect reward. The water is crystal clear and the atmosphere under the trees totally relaxing. A real experience: On the way back we had a little tyre breakdown, but my driver solved it like a pro! He changed the tyre in record time and we were immediately back on the road. Even this small incident did not detract from the good mood – on the contrary, it was a real “African Adventure”. Conclusion: If you are looking for an authentic insight into the nature and culture around Arusha, you should definitely make this trip. Great recommendation!

Amazing Experience - Mpemba our guide was knowledgeable and attentive. He ensured that we had everything we needed and were comfortable at all times . He even took us to look at a Masai School when we asked although that was not on the normal itinerary. The village was welcoming and gave us an understanding of Masai culture , we even danced with them. Lunch was great at a small Tanzanian BBQ restaurant. The springs topped off the day cool and crystal clear. He even stopped at a shop for us on the way home. A truly memorable day, thanks Mpemba!

MASSAI VILLAGE: SCAM: RUN AWAY. - So we visited the Maasai village. It is clearly a scam that must be avoided. It all starts with welcoming the village “chief” who welcomes you and collects the €50 per person instead of the €50 per vehicle. The boss cashes them in without saying anything. . He explains that we can go anywhere in the village and take all the photos we want (At the price charged, it is the least we can do, knowing that admission to the Louvre is cheaper). We are entitled to dances and welcoming songs with a jumping (or foolish) contest. Then we are taught to light the fire (Johnny was doing it better than that) in anticipation of our participation in Koh Lanta. With that, we will necessarily go to the posts. For the blow, failure, the goat dung won't take. It's my wife taking an ash off her skin. Nice for fire specialists. Then visit a Maasai house to scare yourself as a European, throwing yourself into it (fortunately the chef is not Stephane Plaza) and we do not buy (for the moment). Then comes the time for shopping... a circular stand is set up in the middle of the village with souvenirs and other charms. We feel a bit obliged to buy (I know... we are weak...). The price is obviously prohibitive. You negotiate by dividing by two and you end up agreeing to end this bad comedy. At the airport in Arusha, without negotiation, they are cheaper. We end with the emotional sequence with the school visit and the adorable kids singing and reciting the alphabet. The cash register is never far away. We are again being asked for euros. It’s bald, they don’t have the CB terminal and as I don’t have change ...polite refusal. We'll be taken to the car. Duration 40 minutes...cost 120€ with 3 overpaid bracelets. In short, the myth of the Apache reserve still has good days. A piece of advice ...run away..!!!... PS/ I know that when you are able to pay a stay in Tanzania, 120€ is nothing....well if...I would have preferred to give them to our guide..and above all I have the grim impression that I was taken for a c..
