A Sustainable Safari Adventure

As a wildlife photographer and an advocate for sustainable travel, I was thrilled to embark on the Northern Safari Circuit in Tanzania. The journey began in the bustling town of Arusha, where I was warmly welcomed by George, our friendly and punctual driver. His safe driving and engaging conversation set the tone for the adventure that lay ahead.

One of the highlights of this safari was the commitment to sustainability. Unlike many other tours, this one used reusable utensils, a small but significant step towards reducing waste. It was refreshing to see a company that genuinely cared about the environment, and it made the dining experience all the more enjoyable. Each meal was a delightful surprise, offering a variety of flavors that kept our taste buds entertained throughout the trip.

Wildlife Wonders and Cultural Encounters

Our journey took us through the breathtaking landscapes of Tarangire, Manyara, and the Serengeti. Despite visiting during the rainy season, our guide Suleiman was determined to show us the Big Five. His dedication was evident as he drove extra distances, ensuring we had the best chance to witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

Suleiman’s knowledge of the wildlife was impressive, and he shared fascinating insights about the animals we encountered. The handbook in the car was a valuable resource, helping us identify the diverse bird species and herbivores that roamed the parks. Suleiman’s passion for photography was an added bonus, as he captured stunning images of the wildlife and landscapes, allowing me to focus on the experience.

A visit to the Hadzabe tribe was an unexpected cultural highlight. Although the day was shorter than anticipated, the experience was enriching. The Hadzabe’s way of life, deeply connected to nature, resonated with my own values of sustainability and conservation. It was a reminder of the importance of preserving not only the wildlife but also the cultural heritage of the region.

The safari was not without its challenges, but the team’s dedication and professionalism made all the difference. Rose and Peter, our coordinators, were always responsive and patient, ensuring that our needs were met throughout the trip. Their communication was seamless, adding to the overall positive experience.

Suleiman’s attention to detail was remarkable. He kept the car impeccably clean and remembered our dietary preferences, making each day comfortable and enjoyable. His efforts to entertain and educate us, even when the elusive leopard remained hidden, were greatly appreciated.
