Arrival in Arusha
Arusha - Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at the airport, a representative from Lappet Faced Safaris will greet you and transport you to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to unwind and get ready for an unforgettable adventure! Arusha is a bustling hub of safari life in northern Tanzania, and most travelers pass through at some point.
Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - After breakfast, your Lappet Faced safari guide will pick you up from your accommodation. This morning, you will journey to Tarangire National Park, a drive of approximately two and a half hours on well-maintained tarmac roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, which flows through it. This ‘river of warthogs’ is the sole water source for wildlife in the area during the dry season. The park is renowned for its elephant families, often seen gathering by the river. You might also spot giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, along with predators like lions and leopards. Tarangire boasts more breeding bird species than anywhere else on Earth! The park is also home to massive, ancient baobab trees, some of which are believed to be over a thousand years old. Lunch will be at a picnic site within the park. After your game drive, you will travel to your accommodation in Karatu.
Karatu to Central Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Following breakfast, you will drive into the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with a chance to stop and admire the stunning Ngorongoro Crater. You will then continue through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti, entering the southern part of the park.
The Serengeti is truly magnificent, known for its vast open grasslands that offer excellent wildlife viewing. The park is teeming with wildlife, including impalas, buffalos, crocodiles, and hippos. Alongside the iconic landscapes, there is a good chance of encountering predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. After your game drive, you will proceed to your accommodation in time for dinner.
Central to Northern Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you will make your way through the Serengeti towards the Northern region, stopping to experience more wonders along the way! While the Serengeti is rich in wildlife, it is most famous for the annual Great Migration. Vast herds of wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes move in a yearly pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The migration can be observed at any time of year, as long as you know where to look! At this time of year, the migration is typically in the Northern Serengeti National Park.
Your overnight stay will be at a mid-range seasonal tented camp.
Northern Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - The landscape in this part of the Serengeti is diverse, featuring hills, riverine forests, plains, and rocky outcrops. The mighty Mara River cuts through this area, providing the dramatic setting for the river crossing during your visit. During the crossing, over two million wildebeests and hundreds of thousands of zebras and antelopes attempt to cross the Mara River in search of grazing and water. While they undertake this incredible journey, Nile crocodiles add to the challenge. On the other side, lions, hyenas, leopards, and cheetahs await with eager anticipation!
Return to Central Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you will gradually return to Central Serengeti, enjoying an en-route game drive. You may wish to continue your search for the migration before departing this extraordinary place. Every day in the Serengeti is unique, with plenty to explore.
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - This morning, you will leisurely make your way back through the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area, encountering more wildlife along the route. You should arrive at the crater by lunchtime.
Upon first sight, Ngorongoro Crater appears as a hidden world, concealed by steep volcanic walls and featuring pristine wilderness with sweeping savannah, acacia woodlands, and shimmering lakes and swamps. The Crater was formed when a large volcano erupted and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. The descent into the Crater is an adventure in itself, and once on the Crater floor, you will find yourself among large herds of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. The Crater offers the best chance to see the endangered black rhinos, occasionally spotted in the open grasslands. After an afternoon game drive, you will head to your accommodation in Karatu.
Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
Lake Manyara National Park - This morning, you will travel to Lake Manyara National Park, your final destination on this epic safari! Manyara is a small yet diverse park located 120km west of Arusha. Everything here is on a different scale, being both compact (one of Africa’s narrowest parks) and grand (the Great Rift Escarpment towers over Lake Manyara’s western boundary). The park’s namesake is a shallow, salt lake that covers a large portion of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons, and is home to thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other bird species. You may encounter baboons and elephants in the park’s dense evergreen forest, and keep an eye out for the tree-climbing lions that have gained fame across Africa. You will enjoy a picnic lunch within the park.
After your game drive, you will be dropped off at a location of your choice in Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport. We hope you have thoroughly enjoyed your adventure with Lappet Faced Safaris.
