Arrival in Arusha
Arusha - Upon arrival at the airport, a representative from Lappet Faced Safaris will greet you and transport you to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity to unwind and gear up for an unforgettable adventure! Arusha is a bustling hub in northern Tanzania, integral to the safari experience, and most travelers pass through at some point.
Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - After breakfast, your Lappet Faced Safari guide will pick you up from your accommodation. You will then embark on a drive to Tarangire National Park, which takes approximately two and a half hours on well-maintained roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, the sole water source for wildlife during the dry season. Known for its elephant herds, the park also hosts giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, often accompanied by predators like lions and leopards. Tarangire boasts more bird breeding species than anywhere else globally! The park is also home to ancient Baobab trees, some over a thousand years old. Lunch will be enjoyed at a picnic site within the park. After your game drive, you will proceed to your accommodation in Karatu.
Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - Following breakfast, you will ascend into the cooler areas of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Ngorongoro Crater, a hidden gem, features untouched wilderness with expansive savannahs, acacia woodlands, and shimmering lakes and swamps. Formed by a volcanic explosion two to three million years ago, the crater spans 260 km² and is renowned for its geological wonders and dense large mammal populations. Upon descending into the crater, you will encounter numerous wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. The crater offers the best chance to spot the endangered black rhino. You will then travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti, entering from the south.
Serengeti National Park to Karatu
Ngorongoro Crater - The Serengeti is a breathtaking spectacle, famous for its vast open grasslands that provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Its climate and vegetation have remained largely unchanged for millions of years. While abundant in wildlife, the Serengeti is particularly known for the Great Migration, where massive herds of wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes move in search of fresh grazing. The migration is visible year-round; knowing the best viewing spots is key! Besides the iconic landscapes, there is a good chance of spotting predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. This experience is truly transformative. In the afternoon, you will begin your return journey to Karatu, hopefully encountering more wonders along the way!
Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
Lake Manyara National Park - After breakfast, you will head to Lake Manyara National Park, a small yet diverse park located 120km west of Arusha. The park offers a unique scale, being both compact and grand, with the Great Rift Escarpment towering over its western boundary. The park’s namesake, a shallow salt lake, fluctuates with the seasons and hosts thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other bird species. In the park’s dense evergreen forest, you may spot baboons and elephants, and keep an eye out for the famous tree-climbing lions. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. After your game drive, you will bid farewell to your guide and be dropped off at a location of your choice, such as Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport. We hope your adventure with Lappet Faced Safaris has been thoroughly enjoyable.
