Shira Camp Two - As you climb into the heath, vegetation becomes sparser, with unusual giant groundsels towering over the rocky terrain.

Shira 2 to Barranco Camp

Barranco Camp - Relish the sweeping views of the Barranco Valley from your campsite at the foot of the Barranco Wall.

Barranco Camp to Karanga

Karanga Camp - A demanding climb up the Barranco Wall offers stunning vistas from the summit. Proceed over ridges and valleys before a steep ascent to camp.

Karanga to Barafu Camp

Barafu Camp - Approaching the summit, the terrain begins to resemble a lunar landscape. Look out for towering lava formations, remnants of Kilimanjaro’s volcanic history.

Barafu to Summit/ Mweka Millennium Camp

Uhuru Peak - Headlamps illuminate your path during an overnight summit attempt. Capture a few celebratory photos at the peak before descending much of the mountain.

Hours trekking: 8-10 to Summit/ 4-7 to Mweka Millennium Camp

Departure Day: Complete Trek/ Return Home

Mweka gate - Finish your descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate at 5,364 feet. Land Rovers will be ready to transport you back to town for a refreshing shower and some relaxation before your evening airport transfer.

The Machame path, also known as the Whiskey path, is one of the most frequented routes on Kilimanjaro and a preferred route for Alaitol Safaris. Due to its topographical advantage enabling climbers to ‘trek high and sleep low’, the Machame route boasts a high summit success ratio, making it a more optimal route for acclimatization. This path provides some of the most breathtaking sceneries on the mountain.
