From Seoul to the Savannah: My Tanzanian Safari Adventure

Craving a new adventure, I embarked on a 4-day safari in Tanzania, eager to explore the wild savannahs and connect with nature. Join me as I recount the unforgettable journey through Lake Manyara, the Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater.

A Journey into the Wild

After leaving my finance job in Seoul to backpack through Southeast Asia, I found myself craving a new adventure. The allure of the African savannah called to me, and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to experience the Tanzania Safari for myself. As a digital nomad, I often seek out experiences that are both budget-friendly and rich in culture and nature. This safari promised just that, and I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype.

The journey began in Arusha, where I met the team that would guide us through this incredible adventure. From the start, their warmth and professionalism were evident. They were not just guides; they were passionate storytellers, eager to share the wonders of Tanzania with us. Our first stop was Lake Manyara National Park, a place teeming with wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. As we drove through the park, I was struck by the sheer diversity of animals. Giraffes gracefully roamed the plains, while zebras and buffaloes grazed nearby. The backdrop of the Great Rift Wall added a dramatic touch to the scene, making it feel like a page out of a storybook.

Into the Heart of the Serengeti

The next leg of our journey took us to the Serengeti National Park, a name synonymous with the quintessential African safari. The drive was long but scenic, with endless plains stretching out under a vast sky. It was here that I truly felt the wildness of Africa. The Serengeti is famous for its annual migration, and though we were not there during the peak season, the abundance of wildlife was still astonishing. Lions lounged in the shade, while elephants moved majestically across the landscape. Our guides knew the park like the back of their hands, taking us to hidden spots where we could observe the animals in peace, away from the crowds.

One of the highlights was a late evening game drive, where the setting sun painted the sky in hues of orange and pink. As the day turned to night, the sounds of the Serengeti came alive. It was a symphony of nature, a reminder of the untamed beauty of this land. We spent the night at Narudi Tented Camp, where the comforts of modern living met the rawness of the wild. Falling asleep to the distant roar of lions was an experience I won’t soon forget.

The Majesty of Ngorongoro

Our final destination was the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to the vast Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a marvel of nature, a caldera teeming with life. The early morning game drive was a highlight, as we descended into the crater to witness the “big five” in their natural habitat. The sight of a rhino grazing in the distance was a moment of pure awe, a reminder of the importance of conservation efforts in preserving these magnificent creatures.

The semi-nomadic Maasai people also call this area home, and their presence added a cultural richness to the experience. Seeing their livestock graze alongside wild animals was a testament to the harmony that can exist between humans and nature. As we made our way back to Arusha, I reflected on the journey. It was more than just a safari; it was a connection to a land that is both ancient and alive.

This Tanzania Safari was a reminder of why I chose this path of travel. It was an adventure that fed my soul, a journey that left me with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. If you’re seeking an experience that combines the thrill of the wild with the warmth of human connection, this safari is not to be missed. Asante sana, Tanzania, for an unforgettable adventure!
