Arrival Day in Tanzania:
Arusha - Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our transfer driver and escorted to Arusha Planet Lodge, conveniently located near Arusha. The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. You may choose to unwind by the lodge pool or explore the vibrant town of Arusha. In the late afternoon, our team will provide a briefing on what to anticipate during your upcoming trek.
Arusha – Machame Gate (1,790m) – Machame Camp (3,010m):
Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, you will be collected from your lodge and driven to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate. Once all necessary paperwork is completed, your adventure begins. Today’s destination is Machame Camp. Soon, you will be trekking through the lush rainforest, home to ancient trees, primeval ferns, and unique flowers like the Impatiens kilimanjari. You might also catch a glimpse of black and white colobus monkeys among the leaves. Upon reaching the campsite, you can relax, stretch your legs, and enjoy a hearty meal before settling into your tent for the night.
Machame Camp (3,010m) – Shira Camp (3,845m):
Mount Kilimanjaro - An early start today is not due to a long distance, but to ensure you reach Shira Camp by mid-afternoon. As you walk, you’ll notice a dramatic shift in the landscape from lush rainforest to dry moor and heathland. Upon arrival at your campsite, a stunning view of the mountain range unfolds before you. The glaciers of Kibo glisten in the golden light of the setting sun as you savor another deliciously prepared meal before retiring to your tent.
Shira Camp (3,845m) – Lava Tower Hut (4,640m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m):
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today focuses on acclimatization. You will ascend approximately 800 meters but will sleep at a level not much higher than the previous night. Starting at Shira Plateau, you will ascend to Lava Tower, where you will rest before continuing through Barranco Valley to the picturesque Barranco Camp. The trek takes about 6 to 7 hours, but the captivating alpine desert and Barranco Valley, with its small lobelia plants and giant senecios, will keep you engaged. A well-deserved dinner and overnight stay await you at Barranco Camp.
Barranco Camp (3,960m) – Karanga Camp (4,035m):
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today, you will tackle the Barranco Wall. Some sections may require using your hands for better grip, but no actual climbing is needed. Your guide will be with you every step of the way to assist. The route, with its numerous ascents and descents, allows for further acclimatization and leads you to the mountain ridge. Walking along the ridge, you can admire the beautiful landscape with its striking contrasts of desert and vegetation before finally reaching the misty Karanga Camp. The trek takes between 3 to 4 hours, leaving ample time to rest and enjoy a game of rummy. Dinner and overnight at Karanga Camp.
Acclimatization at Karanga Valley (14,800):
Mount Kilimanjaro - Hike time: 3.5 hrs., Elevation change: +100 M
Estimated distance: 4km, Maximum elevation: 4590 M
Final elevation: 4000 M
From Barranco Hut, we climb up through the edge of the great Barranco. 95% of the day’s walking will be at an elevation of 4250m. We will conclude our day at Karanga Valley campsite at an elevation of 4,000m, with walking time ranging from 4 to 5 hours.
Barafu Camp (4,640m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,080m):
Mount Kilimanjaro - Around midnight, your guide will wake you with a warm cup of tea and biscuits to prepare you for your final ascent. The moon and your headlamps will be your only light sources as you ascend to Stella Point (5,730m), reaching the crater rim in about 5 to 7 hours. Another 1 to 2 hours will bring you to Uhuru Peak, where you can witness the sunrise over the African landscape, casting a pink hue over the snowy peak and making the glaciers sparkle like diamonds. After capturing this breathtaking view and achievement on film, you will begin your descent along the same route back to Barafu Camp, where your team awaits with snacks and refreshments. Rested and relaxed, you will proceed to Mweka Camp for your final night on Africa’s highest mountain.
Mweka Camp (3,080m) – Mweka Gate (1,630m) – Drive Back to Arusha:
Mount Kilimanjaro - A delicious breakfast is followed by a traditional farewell ceremony from your mountain crew before you embark on your final descent. You will once again trek through the rainforest, offering another chance to spot the playful colobus monkeys, before finally reaching Mweka Gate. You will be met at the gate and transported back to Meru View Lodge for a refreshing shower and a relaxing day by the pool.
Departure Transfer:
Arusha - If your time in Africa concludes today, our transfer team will drive you back to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure. If you have arranged a safari or a few days to unwind on the pristine sandy beaches and tropical waters of Zanzibar, we will assist you in smoothly transitioning from your climb to your next Tanzanian adventure.

The route spans seven days, with varying altitudes and a touch of good fortune, creating an ideal environment for acclimatization, increasing your chances of reaching the summit. During the Machame Route tour, overnight stays will be in tents.
