Arusha - Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival, an Explore Green Africa Safaris representative will greet you at the airport and transport you to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity to relax and gear up for an unforgettable adventure! Arusha is a bustling hub in northern Tanzania and a key stop for many safari travelers.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park - After breakfast, your Explore Green Africa Safaris guide will pick you up from your accommodation. This morning, you’ll journey to Tarangire National Park, approximately a two-and-a-half-hour drive on well-maintained roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, the sole water source for wildlife during the dry season. Known for its elephant herds, the park also hosts giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, often accompanied by predators like lions and leopards. Tarangire boasts more bird breeding species than anywhere else on Earth! The park is also home to ancient Baobab trees, some over a thousand years old. Lunch will be enjoyed at a picnic site within the park. After your game drive, you’ll head to your nearby accommodation.
Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park
Lake Manyara National Park - Following breakfast, you’ll drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a small yet diverse park. The park is both compact and grand, with the Great Rift Escarpment towering over its western boundary. The park’s namesake is a shallow salt lake, home to thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other bird species. In the park’s lush evergreen forest, you might spot baboons and elephants, and keep an eye out for the famous tree-climbing lions. After a full day in the park, you’ll take a short drive to your accommodation in Karatu.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you’ll ascend into the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with a chance to view the stunning Ngorongoro Crater. You’ll then travel through the conservation area to the Serengeti, entering from the south. The Serengeti is renowned for its vast open grasslands and exceptional wildlife sightings. While it is home to abundant wildlife, it is most famous for the annual Great Migration, where wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes move in search of fresh grazing. The migration can be observed year-round if you know where to look!
Day 5: Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park - This day is dedicated to game drives in the Serengeti. The park is teeming with wildlife, including impalas, buffaloes, crocodiles, and hippos. Alongside the iconic landscapes, there’s a good chance of spotting predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Depending on the Great Migration’s location, you might explore beyond the Central region to witness this natural spectacle. It’s a truly transformative experience.
Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - After breakfast, you’ll travel from Serengeti National Park to the Ngorongoro Crater. The crater appears as a hidden world, with its steep volcanic walls enclosing a pristine wilderness of savannah, acacia woodlands, and shimmering lakes and swamps. Formed by a volcanic explosion and collapse two to three million years ago, the crater is an adventure to descend into. On the crater floor, you’ll encounter large herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. The crater offers the best chance to see the endangered black rhino, sometimes visible in the open grasslands. After a full afternoon in the crater, you’ll proceed to your luxury accommodation in Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 7: Karatu to Arusha
Karatu - Today, you’ll be driven to your final destination, whether it’s Arusha Town, Arusha Airport, or Kilimanjaro Airport. Departure times will depend on your onward travel plans. We hope your adventure with Explore Green Africa Safaris has been thoroughly enjoyable!
