Lake Manyara National Park - Non-game viewing travel time: 2½ hours
Distance: 130 km
Guests will be picked up from Arusha and transferred to Lake Manyara National Park. Arrival is scheduled in time for lunch at the lodge, followed by an afternoon game drive in the park. This park is one of Tanzania’s most stunningly situated wildlife areas, featuring a vast but shallow soda lake that covers two-thirds of the park, nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s diverse habitat attracts a wide range of animals, including one of Africa’s largest elephant populations, Lake Manyara’s unique tree-climbing lions, and large flocks of flamingos drawn by the lake’s algae.
Dinner and overnight stay will be arranged according to the chosen accommodation option.
Lake Manyara to Serengeti Plains
Serengeti National Park - Non-game viewing travel time: 6 hours
Distance: 205 km
After breakfast, the journey continues towards Serengeti National Park, passing through the scenic highlands of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descending into the heart of wild Africa, the Serengeti National Park unfolds with its endless plains stretching as far as the eye can see. The destination is the central park area, known as the Seronera area, which is one of the park’s richest wildlife habitats. The Seronera River provides a vital water source, attracting a wide variety of wildlife representative of the Serengeti’s species. Arrival is timed for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in the park.
Dinner and overnight stay will be in the Seronera area, according to the selected accommodation option.
Serengeti Plains
Serengeti National Park - Experience the unique opportunity to float in a Hot Air Balloon over the Serengeti Plains (available at an additional cost with prior arrangement). Glide silently above the awakening bush, spotting wildlife and enjoying Africa’s breathtaking scenery. After breakfast, a game viewing drive along the Sogore River Circuit is planned, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River, offering potential sightings of lions, Thomson gazelles, topis, ostriches, and cheetahs. The Visitor Centre near the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites is worth visiting after the morning game drive. This well-designed centre features interesting wildlife displays and a gift shop with information leaflets and area maps. It also has a shop for cold drinks and snacks, a picnic area, and an information trail around a nearby kopje. A relaxed picnic lunch will be enjoyed at the centre under the shade of giant acacia trees.
Serengeti Plains to Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater - After breakfast at the lodge, the journey continues to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with a stopover at Olduvai Gorge, a site rich in history dating back to the dawn of time. It was here that anthropologists Drs. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man’, both crucial links in human evolution. Arrival is scheduled for lunch at the lodge, followed by a descent of over 600 meters into the crater for a half-day safari tour. The Ngorongoro National Park, with its year-round water supply and fodder, supports a vast array of animals, including herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. The park is also known for its dense predator population, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the elusive leopard. A visit to Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, is included.
Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
Ngorongoro Conservation Area - Non-game viewing travel time: 4 hours
Distance: 190 km
After breakfast, guests will be transferred back to Arusha. Upon arrival, lunch will be served, marking the end of the African safari adventure. It is customary for the group to tip the guide approximately $20 per day. Guests will be taken to their hotel, concluding the safari services.
*An additional half-day game drive at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is available if departure from Arusha is not time-restricted, though additional costs will apply.
