A Day of Adventure and Discovery

Our day began bright and early, setting off from Porto with a sense of excitement and anticipation. As a family travel writer, I always look for experiences that offer a blend of adventure, education, and fun for both adults and children. This tour promised just that, and it did not disappoint.

Our guide, Danny, was a fountain of knowledge, sharing fascinating insights about Portugal’s history and culture as we journeyed towards Arouca. The highlight of the morning was undoubtedly the suspension bridge. Spanning an impressive 516 meters across the valley, it was a thrilling experience. I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive at first, but the breathtaking views and the sense of accomplishment made it all worthwhile. Lunch in Arouca was a delightful affair, with a hearty meal of roasted veal and potatoes. The kids enjoyed the vegetarian options, and we all relished the chance to recharge and share stories with fellow travelers from different parts of the world.

Coastal Charm and Canal Adventures

Our afternoon was spent exploring the charming town of Costa Nova, famous for its colorful, striped houses. The kids were fascinated by the vibrant architecture and the bustling bay filled with sailboats. It was a picturesque setting that felt like stepping into a postcard.

The final leg of our journey took us to Aveiro, often referred to as the “Venice of Portugal.” The boat ride through the canals was a highlight, offering a unique perspective of the town’s historic center. Our guide on the boat was engaging and informative, making the experience both fun and educational for the whole family.

We ended the day with a leisurely stroll through Aveiro’s streets, soaking in the local culture and enjoying a refreshing drink at a quaint café. The bridges adorned with ribbons added a whimsical touch to the town’s charm.
