• Mather Point - A scenic viewpoint along the South Rim, renowned for its breathtaking canyon views.
• Maricopa Point - Known for its stunning vistas, Maricopa Point also overlooks the historic Orphan Lode Mine, originally claimed in 1891 by miner Dan Hogan. Initially a copper mine, Hogan transitioned to uranium ore in the 1950s. Mining ceased in 1967, and Grand Canyon National Park acquired the site in 1987, with significant environmental restoration commencing in 2008.
• Powell Point - This viewpoint features the Powell Memorial, honoring Major John Wesley Powell’s exploratory expeditions down the Colorado River in 1869 and 1871-72. Visitors can also enjoy breathtaking views from Powell Point.
• Hopi Point - A favored spot for witnessing sunsets and sunrises, Hopi Point offers expansive vistas. The Colorado River is visible to the west, and restrooms are available.
• Mohave Point - Another excellent location for sunset and sunrise viewing, Mohave Point provides views of the Colorado River deep within the canyon.
• The Abyss - This viewpoint offers a nearly vertical perspective into the canyon, overlooking the Monument Creek drainage area where backpackers often camp near Monument Creek or on a small beach along the Colorado River at Granite Rapids.
• Monument Creek Vista - This viewpoint marks the beginning of the Greenway Trail, which is accessible to hikers, bicyclists, and visitors using wheelchairs. The trail adheres to Accessibility Guidelines for Outdoor Developed Areas and follows much of the 1912 Hermit Road alignment. It features six overlooks, including Pima Point, and several resting areas.
• Pima Point - One of the premier spots on the rim to see and occasionally hear the river. On quiet days, the sounds of Granite Rapids below echo up the canyon walls. The Greenway Trail extends from here to Hermits Rest, accommodating bicyclists and visitors using wheelchairs alongside pedestrians.
• Hermit’s Rest - Designed by Mary Colter, a renowned Grand Canyon architect, Hermits Rest was built in 1914 to resemble an old miner’s cabin, complete with a large fireplace and front porch. Today, it houses a gift shop and small snack bar, with restrooms available. The Hermit Trail, which descends steeply into the canyon, begins about 0.5 miles (0.8 km) west of Hermits Rest.
