The Misti Volcano Trekking Tour offers an exhilarating high-altitude adventure, allowing participants to ascend the Misti Volcano. Situated at the base of the Chili Valley, 2,400 meters above sea level, this volcano is part of the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. No technical skills are required for this climb, as Misti is a stratovolcano made up of ash and volcanic lava. This tour is perfect for enthusiasts of extreme sports.
The primary challenge in climbing Misti Volcano is navigating the volcanic ash and sand, which can sometimes form dunes. These elements add a level of difficulty to the ascent. The volcano is approximately 800,000 years old and was referred to as the “volcano without a name” during colonial times. According to local myths, ethnic groups living near the crater were forced to flee due to an eruption, and upon their return, they named the volcano as a form of admonishment.
