Vicuña National Reserve | Misti Base Camp

Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve - At 8:30 am, the operator will pick you up to visit the most significant water dam in Arequipa city, located on the northern side of El Misti. By 9:30 am, the journey into the Vicuña Reserve begins, with the route gradually ascending through a winding, bumpy path between the Chachani and Misti volcanoes. A stop is made at over 4000 meters to appreciate the stunning mountain scenery, blanketed with unique Andean flora and fauna. There is a good chance of spotting wild South American camelids searching for food and water. The journey continues across the water dam to reach 4200 meters, marking the start of the climbing excursion. Take time to stretch, have a snack, and prepare for the climb. The hike today is a gradual ascent through a sandy and ashy path, with stops along the way to catch your breath, rehydrate, and rest. It typically takes about 3.5 hours to reach Monte Blanco base camp, situated at 4810 meters. Later, enjoy a hot, delicious dinner prepared by the tour guide, who will also discuss the plan for the next day. Sleep well.

Volcan Misti - Begin the day with a delightful breakfast, including coca tea, and at 2:00 am, start the climb to reach the summit of El Misti. Equipped with all necessary climbing gear, the climb today will take about 6.5 to 7 hours. The terrain remains sandy and ashy, with the mountain’s inclination changing significantly as the ascent continues. It’s important to maintain a steady pace to progress efficiently. Upon reaching the edge of the main crater, be amazed by this extraordinary place. Take a moment to enjoy it and cherish the memory. Ten minutes later, the summit is reached, offering an exhilarating 360° panoramic view of the breathtaking landscape. Take your time to savor this wonder, then prepare for the descent back to the base camp, which takes around 1.5 hours. After resting, pack up everything, and at the designated time, continue descending the final stretch, another 1.5 hours, to where the vehicle awaits to return to the city.
