- Historic Centre of Arequipa - The tour begins with a drive to the district of Cayma, one of Arequipa’s traditional areas. The route includes the new “Chilina” bridge, offering a scenic view of the city and its terraces alongside the Chili River. In Cayma, visitors will explore the Main Plaza and its Church, where Dominican monks constructed a chapel in 1544, now serving as the sanctuary of the Virgin of Candelaria.
After this visit, the tour proceeds to Añashuayco, known for the extraction of the renowned volcanic stone “Sillar.” This white volcanic stone is prominently used in the construction of Arequipa’s colonial buildings.
- Yanahuara - In Añashuayco, the guide will provide insights into the origin and geological formations of the quarries, and visitors will witness the demanding work involved in this trade.
The tour continues to Yanahuara, where the popular Antiquilla market retains the colonial architectural style of “Old Arequipa.” Visitors will also explore Yanahuara Main Plaza, enjoying a stunning view of the city and its volcanoes, and stroll through some traditional streets. Following Yanahuara, the tour moves to Arequipa Main Square (Plaza de Armas), where the guide will share historical details and information about the Cathedral’s infrastructure. The tour concludes at the entrance of the Monastery of Santa Catalina.
(Upon request, the tour can also end at the Main Plaza). At the Monastery of Santa Catalina, the guide will assist those interested in visiting the monument.
