Eth Pokuna - This enormous man-made pond, called “Eth Pokuna” or “Elephant Pond,” is situated near Lankaramaya in Anuradhapura. It is a rectangular pond, 159 meters in length, 52.7 meters across, and 9.5 meters deep, with a holding capacity of 75,000 cubic meters of water. Eth Pokuna literally means “The Elephant Pond” due to its scale. It is part of the landscape of the vast Abhayagiri monastery, which spans over 500 acres. The tank is constructed from large stone blocks stacked at an angle on the walls. There are three sets of stairs to the bottom, on the south, north, and eastern sides. The bottom is not paved.
