Cozy Cafes and Cultural Tours: A Rainy Day in Antigua

Antigua Guatemala, with its cobblestone streets and colonial charm, is a city that invites exploration, even when the skies are gray and the rain is falling. This weekend, as the rain taps gently on the rooftops, it’s the perfect time to dive into the rich cultural tapestry of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Start your day with a Walking Tour of the city’s wonders. Available from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM or 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, this tour is a delightful way to uncover the myths and marvels of Antigua. As you wander through the historic streets, your guide will share tales of the city’s past, from its time as the capital of Central America to its present-day vibrancy.

The tour takes you to iconic landmarks like La Merced Church and the Santa Catalina Arch, where you’ll feel the weight of history in every stone. Don’t forget to bring an umbrella, as the rain is likely to accompany you on this journey through time. The high humidity and mild temperatures make for a cozy atmosphere, perfect for soaking in the stories of this enchanting city.

“A fun and very knowledgeable tour of Antigua. - Luis was very, very good in giving us a lot of insight into Mayan and Guatemalan history and showing the meaning of what we were seeing at churches and other buildings and giving us a good lay of the land as to where to eat, what to expect, what not to do and how to be respectful of their cultural norms. I took this tour the first day I arrived, and it was insightful, fun and very helpful and his English is excellent.” (Reviewed at: 2025-02-12)

Culinary Delights: Cooking Class and Market Tour

After a morning of exploration, why not indulge in the flavors of Guatemala with an Cooking Class? Available from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, this experience is a feast for the senses. Begin with a tour of the local market, where you’ll learn about the vibrant fruits, vegetables, and spices that define Guatemalan cuisine. Your guide, Joaquin, will introduce you to the local growers, and you’ll have the chance to purchase fresh ingredients for your cooking class.

Back at the cooking school, you’ll roll up your sleeves and dive into the art of Guatemalan cooking. From traditional dishes to modern twists, this class offers a hands-on experience that will leave you with a deeper appreciation for the country’s culinary heritage. As the rain patters outside, you’ll be warm and cozy inside, savoring the delicious fruits of your labor.

“Favourite activity - This was my absolute favourite activity during my time in Guatemala. I think I was super lucky with the group of people doing this with me also. But our guide during the market tour was informative and friendly. We were given ample time to explore and to ask questions.. we even got to try some of the local fruits. And the cooking portion??? Phenomenal! The food was delicious, the views were spectacular and the ambience was to die for. The delicious wine before, during and after dinner was also a nice touch. I would totally do this again if given the opportunity. Thanks for the amazing experience!” (Reviewed at: 2025-02-25)
