11:30 am Departure for Sumpango Sacatepéquez (the towns are relatively close, but festival traffic may be encountered)
1:00 pm Estimated arrival at the football field to enjoy the kite festival in Sumpango
3:00 pm Visit to the cemetery of Sumpango
4:30 pm Return to the parking lot

The grand kite festival is deeply rooted in the Mayan Kaqchikel heritage of Santiago and Sumpango Sacatepequez, passed down through generations. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the festival with a knowledgeable local Mayan Kaqchikel guide. During the visit, the guide will explain the connection between Mayan spirituality and the cosmovision/worldview as expressed through the giant kites. Additionally, participants will gain a deeper understanding of Mayan Kaqchikel culture and the traditions associated with the Day of the Dead.
