The Santa Marta earthquake in 1773 left it in ruins, but the facade has been restored, and the ruins are open to visitors today.

Originally built by the Santa Catarina Mártir Convent in 1693 as a bridge for discreet passage, it offers stunning photo opportunities.
• Iglesia de La Merced - This stunning yellow and white church, built in 1749, is a prime example of Guatemalan baroque architecture.
• Casa Santo Domingo Museums - The largest monastery in Antigua Guatemala, Casa Santo Domingo, is located on the grounds of the Santo Domingo Monastery. It began as a key convent in the Americas, housing followers of Santo Domingo de Guzmán. Established in 1538, the monastery was a grand, two-towered, ten-belled structure filled with riches and relics. Partially destroyed by the 1773 Santa Marta earthquake, it now stands as a monument preserving baroque architecture and treasures. The ancient walls, brick archways, and tile corridors tell the story of the original Casa Santo Domingo. Today, part of the ruins has been transformed into Antigua’s only five-star hotel, which opened in 1989.
