Humantay Lake - The journey begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel, followed by a picturesque 3-hour drive to Mollepata. Upon arrival in Mollepata, breakfast will be served at a local home. After breakfast, the journey continues for another 1 hour and 45 minutes to Soraypampa, the starting point of the trek. During this drive, you will enjoy the first glimpses of the Salkantay and Humantay Mountains.
At Soraypampa (12,467 ft), the support team will prepare for the trek by packing and loading equipment onto horses. The hike commences with a visit to Humantay Lake, a 2-hour excursion.
Following this adventure, the trail leads back to the starting point, and the hike to Salkantaypampa begins. The trek starts with a gentle 2-hour ascent to Salkantaypampa, where lunch will be served. After lunch, the journey continues with a 2-hour climb to Soyrococha (14,332 ft), the campsite for the night.
Soyrococcha - Salkantay Pass - Colpapampa
Salkantay Trek - The day starts with breakfast, followed by a 1-hour uphill hike to the trek’s highest point, the Salkantay Pass (15,252 ft). At the summit, an offering to Salkantay will be made, and there will be a discussion about Inca culture and the significance of this revered location. The next leg is a 2-hour downhill hike to Huayrac (12,464 ft), where lunch will be served. After lunch, a 4-hour downhill trek leads to the campsite for the night, Colpapampa (10,170 ft).
Colpapampa - Lucmabamba
Lucmabamba - Llactapata - Aguas Calientes
Mirador de Llactapata - An early start with breakfast sets the stage for a moderate 3 ½ hour climb through the rainforest to the Llactapata ruin (8,856 ft), where a comprehensive tour will be conducted. This location offers the first distant view of Machu Picchu. After leaving Llactapata, a 2 ½ hour descent leads to Hydro, where lunch will be served. At 3 pm, the train to Aguas Calientes will be boarded. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, hotel check-in will take place, followed by dinner at a restaurant.
Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
Machu Picchu - Breakfast will be enjoyed at the hotel before taking a bus to Machu Picchu. A 2-hour guided walking tour of the site will be provided. If the optional Huayna Picchu climb has been chosen (not included in the package), the hike will begin at 10 AM. For those not climbing, there will be additional time to explore Machu Picchu before returning to Aguas Calientes.
Once back in Aguas Calientes, the train will be boarded to either Ollantaytambo or Poroy. From there, a private van will transport you to Cusco.
