Otherworldly Experience - The entire party LOVED this glacial hike. It felt otherworldly to hike on our frozen history and see the whitest, bluest and blackest ice one can see. Geoff, our driver, was incredibly friendly and was very knowledgeable about the area and glaciers. Sophie, our guide, went above and beyond to help everyone in our party (ages 4-70) safely enjoy the experience all while teaching us about the glacier and its ever changing form. If you are even thinking about doing it, do it! There is about a two hour drive from Anchorage to the glacier, but the sights keep you distracted or you can sneak in a quick nap.

An outing to a beautiful memorable place 90 minutes from Anchorage - This is a trip to a stunning location, a 90-minute bus ride from the centre of Anchorage. You are givien the necessary kit, in particular the spike chains to put over your boots, and a guide drives you across a frozen lake on a snowmobile, before s/he leads you up and down on the beautiful Matunuska glacier. We were in a group of 8 and walking on the glacier for two and an half hours. This requires you to be able to walk and be on your feet for a decent length of time. The weather was not overly cold when we were there - just below freezing - and we got no rain or snow, although it wasn't sunny. The only reason why I have not given 5 stars is that the driver who was coming to collect us overslept and the replacement driver arrived an hour late, although he was great. Just for clarification, there is nowhere to stop between Anchorage and the glacier.
