- Besakih Temple - Besakih Temple welcomes tourists and is a fantastic destination to explore during a holiday on Bali island. Known as Bali’s Mother Temple for over a millennium, this Hindu temple is perched 1,000 meters high on the southwestern slopes of Mount Agung. Besakih is an artistic and distinctive complex comprising at least 86 temples, including the main Pura Penataran Agung (the Great Temple of State) and 18 others. It is the largest and most sacred of the island’s temples, surrounded by stunning rice paddies, hills, mountains, streams, and more.
- Tirta Gangga - Tirta Gangga Water Garden was designed and built in 1948 by Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem (1887 - 1966), the last king of Karangasem. He was an extraordinary individual, not only as the architect of the water gardens but also for his hands-on involvement in their construction. Many were amazed to see the Raja working alongside his laborers, knee-deep in mud, digging out the pools and ponds. Owned and maintained by the royal Karangasem family, the opulent water gardens feature 1.2 hectares of pools, ponds, and fountains, surrounded by meticulously manicured lawns adorned with stepping stones, ornate statues, and tropical gardens.
- Lempuyang Temple - Lempuyang Temple is believed to be older than most Hindu temples on the island. A must-visit for the fit and adventurous, the main temple is situated at 1,175 meters above sea level, atop Mount Lempuyang in East Bali. The heights are accessible via a steep staircase of over 1,700 steps, with attractions along the way including several other temples and numerous grey long-tailed macaques inhabiting the cool mountain forests.
- Ujung Water Palace - Taman Ujung Sukasada is located in the village of Seraya in Karangasem regency, a sister site to Tirta Gangga, also constructed by the late Raja of Karangasem. The complex features various large pools and historic structures set against the backdrop of Mount Agung and the eastern shoreline. The site endured near devastation from hot ash following the eruption of nearby Mount Agung in 1963 and also survived an earthquake in 1979. Restoration efforts over the decades have restored its current splendor, continuing to attract both locals and visitors.
