- São Gonçalo Church - A highlight of the charming town of Amarante, located in the lush northern region of Portugal, the São Gonçalo Convent was established by King D. João III in 1540.
The Convent, situated where a small medieval chapel once stood, is dedicated to São Gonçalo and features the stunning São Gonçalo Church, designed in the Dominican style. The Church, with its Mannerist architecture, boasts a Latin cross layout and an impressive façade with three levels, one baroque and the other two in Renaissance style.
Inside, the Church has three naves, including the significant São Gonçalo Chapel, where the Saint’s remains rest in a limestone tomb statue.
- Ponte de São Gonçalo - Dating back to the 18th century, the Bridge of Amarante connects the two banks at the site of the original bridge built by Saint Gonçalo to facilitate pilgrim passage.
