The Convent, situated where a small medieval chapel once stood, is dedicated to SĂ£o Gonçalo and features the stunning SĂ£o Gonçalo Church, designed in the Dominican style. The Church, with its Mannerist architecture, boasts a Latin cross layout and an impressive façade with three levels, one baroque and the other two in Renaissance style.
Inside, the Church has three naves, including the significant SĂ£o Gonçalo Chapel, where the Saint’s remains rest in a limestone tomb statue.
- Ponte de SĂ£o Gonçalo - Dating back to the 18th century, the Bridge of Amarante connects the two banks at the site of the original bridge built by Saint Gonçalo to facilitate pilgrim passage.
- The Douro Valley - This region captivates with its age-old traditions and breathtaking scenery.
- PinhĂ£o - Enjoy a boat trip on the Douro River.
- PinhĂ£o Railway Station - Constructed in the 19th century on the Douro line, the PinhĂ£o Railway Station is a must-see for visitors to the Douro region.
In 1937, the station was adorned with tile panels that brought it fame, making it the most beautiful railway station in the Douro. These panels, totaling approximately 3,047 tiles, were crafted at Aleluia CerĂ¢micas (FĂ¡brica Aleluia) by J. Oliveira, an artist who also decorated other Portuguese stations.
