No lights, but a wonderful guide! - It was snowing so we didn’t see the aurora. But our guide took us all over looking for a break in the clouds. We stopped at a an old church which was beautiful in the night light. Our guide was the owner and knowledgeable about Alta. And very hospitable! We enjoyed the tour very much even though we didn’t see the lights.

Superb Aurora Borealis - I just had my first night out of a 3-day Northern Lights safari in Alta and all I can say is wow. On the first night alone, the Aurora Borealis gave us one of the most spectacular light shows I’ve ever seen — ribbons of green, pink, and purple dancing across the sky. It was absolutely unforgettable.
Our guide was outstanding: knowledgeable, passionate, and patient. He knew exactly where to go for the best viewing conditions and shared fascinating insights about the science and history of the aurora. I also appreciated the warm gear, hot drinks, and his support in helping us capture amazing photos — I now have images that I’ll keep for the rest of my life.
If you’re coming to Northern Norway and want a real Northern Lights experience, I highly recommend this tour. It surpassed all expectations.

Unforgettable experience with our guide Roger - We had an unforgettable experience with our guide Roger. He picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the office where he spoke about the Northern Lights and the Finnmark region. It was fascinating and very informative; just the right amount of time. They do provide you with arctic clothing if needed (free).
We then drove into the countryside, helped by his maps and apps. We saw the most magnificent Northern Lights, some dancing, some more static. It was an amazing experience. A warm cup of hot chocolate and a pastry were ready to celebrate our luck. I would absolutely recommend this excursion. It’s a must-do!

worth the money even if we had not seen the lights - We had an unforgettable experience with our guide, who was both friendly and incredibly knowledgeable (apologies, I’ve forgotten his name). He had previously worked on Russian border issues and shared fascinating insights—giving us a short history of the region as well as a science lesson on the northern lights.
That evening, it was snowing and the sky was overcast. Using his apps and maps, he suggested we take a chance and head south toward a clearing in the woods that looked promising. Without hesitation, he steered the truck off the main road and into deep snow—something I’d never dream of doing back home in the UK, where I’d stick firmly to well-lit roads!
After about 50 meters, we emerged into a clearing. The sky opened up, filled with stars, and then—magically—the northern lights appeared. It was breathtaking.
We were on a cruise that night, and while the ship also offered a northern lights tour, they unfortunately saw nothing. We, however, struck gold thanks to our guide’s expertise and intuition.

Very cool - Very attentive and patient guide to take pictures.
You could have a professional camera with photos taken by the operator but that's just a suggestion.

Great experience! - Seeing the northern lights is always a game of luck. Booking the right night, having a clear enough sky, and the right kp. However, most important is knowing the spots to go with minimal light pollution and that's where a tour is vital. Steven took us to 4 spots; no lights at the first, the second was good (barely visible naked eye, ok photos), the third was amazing (picture), and by the fourth the snow clouds had rolled in. Just to give you a sense of the luck involved, and checking out different spots at different times.
This tour was fantastic with affable Steven! He was willing to come out just for a couple with late notice, and has a true passion for chasing the lights. Transport was a minivan; not a high volume minibus. It was nice and intimate and less commercial than other tours we've done; also not a ton of time on the road to get to the spots like we had in Tromso. Extra cold weather gear and boots are provided (take the boots! some of the snow was very deep). We got lucky, but some girls from the night before did not. However, we ran into them because Steven mapped the spots to check out on their own on other nights. We went to Alta to see the lights, but almost didn't try on our last night before flying out early AM because the predicted kp wasn't the best and there were some clouds. But as the evening evolved things improved, I convinced my wife, and they told me there was a decent chance. Really glad we pushed through, did this tour, and that Steven was willing to accommodate on what would otherwise have been a night off! I was able to get some half-decent shots with just an iPhone and a cheap travel phone tripod (with remote). Steven took some pictures for/of us as well. Worth every penny!

As good as it cld be on a cloudy night. - Our guide , Roger was excellent and worked hard to find a spot to find the lights on a cloudy night. Excellent local knowledge too. Would heartily recommend.

Sometimes the force is not with you. - My suggestion is check the weather and an aurora app several days ahead & use the option to cancel 24hrs ahead if weather is not promising. The vendor will go no matter what and you’ll have a drive through the countryside & a stop at his house for a quick snack around the fire. I get it - their philosophy is looking for chance. The guides/ owner are pleasant but that’s not the experience you’re buying and heavy clouds and snow don’t allow seeing the lights that of course may or may not appear. It’s on you to mitigate the odds.
