A tour to be recommended - We enjoyed this tour, Margaret is an excellent guide. We learned about life in a village and were taken to see how local families live. We were treated to the local fruit and saw how traditional meals are cooked. On the way we experienced the beautiful countryside. We travelled in a local minibus, which meant we were a small group.

Just spectacular - This tour was awesome. The tour operator was great, communication was great, dropped us off at a great local restaurant that was an easy walk to the ship. Just spectacular.

Amazing local village experience - We did the Cultural and Local Village tour in Alotau. Our guide Michael was fantastic. The village tour was the highlight. We were welcomed as family. We watched the women prepare a lunch of Taro, fish, greens, bananas and papaya, it was delicious. The grandmother weaved baskets for our lunch to be served in. After lunch she tied a palm frond in to a loop for her young grandson to shimmy up a palm tree to gather Betel Nut. The little children just melt your heart, they don’t stop smiling. We brought toys, colouring books, pens etc to leave with them but didn’t realise we needed Customs approval which takes a few days so be prepared if that’s your plan. Michael’s wife is a local teacher, everything is shared evenly with the village. We really enjoyed our day.

Rural life in Papua New Guinea - We used Kwalia who picked us up in the port of ALOTAU. We did a rural tour seeing a school, a farm and the skull caves we saw village crafts and also had our lunch included. Liam and his wife were excellent hosts for the trip. This was the real PNG.

Interesting visit with friendly villagers but over priced. - Extremely welcoming and friendly at the village. Transportation was old with a flat battery - the bus had to be bump started to get it going. Over priced. Would be great if all the cash went to the villagers themselves.

Rustic tour in a Very Dirty Van - We met up with the tour company outside the port and were ushered into a filthy van with a broken windscreen and poor air conditioning in stifling heat. We were taken to a remote village about 40 minutes' drive away down pothole-ridden roads, and up a river bed. The village was very interesting to visit, and the people were very friendly, inviting, and eager to share their village lifestyle and culture.

Disappointed with local tour agency - We were so disappointed with this local tour. We were picked up in the very nasty van with broken windshield with no AC. They took us to visit the village & the local market. Only spent 2 hours & charging us $80 each. In the tour itinerary description stated the tour is 4 hours and the lunch is included. We confronted the driver and the tour guide, they said that they were told only 2 hours tour & no lunch. We were so disappointed with Viator, how could they contracted with the unreliable local tour agency. This is really bad experience for us.
