A Nomadic Journey Begins

As a digital nomad, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that allow me to connect with nature and local culture. When I heard about the Kungey Alatau Adventure in Almaty, Kazakhstan, I knew it was something I had to try. The idea of exploring the wilderness on horseback and foot, away from the usual tourist spots, was too enticing to pass up.

Arriving in Almaty, I was immediately struck by the city’s blend of modernity and tradition. The bustling streets were a stark contrast to the serene landscapes I was about to explore. My journey began with a drive to the village of Baiseit, a charming Uigur settlement known for its vibrant market. Here, I stocked up on fresh bread, fruits, and vegetables, a perfect start to my adventure.

Meeting my guide, Darya, was a highlight in itself. Her passion for the outdoors and deep knowledge of the region were evident from the start. As we prepared the horses for our journey, I felt a sense of excitement and anticipation. This was going to be an adventure unlike any other.

Into the Wild

The horseback ride to the mountain hut was nothing short of magical. The trail took us through lush forests and over the Besmoinak pass, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Each stop along the way was an opportunity to soak in the beauty of the untouched wilderness and capture memories with my camera.

Reaching the mountain hut, I was greeted by the stunning panorama of the Middle and Low Kolsay lakes. The tranquility of the setting was a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. After a hearty dinner, I spent the night in the cozy hut, falling asleep to the sounds of nature.

The next day, we set out on foot to explore the trails around the Kolsay lakes. Hiking through the pristine landscape, I felt a deep connection to the land and its history. Darya’s insights into the local flora and fauna added a layer of depth to the experience, making it both educational and awe-inspiring.

A Taste of Nomadic Life

One of the most memorable aspects of the trip was the opportunity to experience the nomadic lifestyle. From preparing meals over an open fire to sleeping under the stars, every moment was a reminder of the simplicity and beauty of life in the wild.

As we made our way back to Almaty, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible journey I had just experienced. The Kungey Alatau Adventure had not only allowed me to explore a new part of the world but also to connect with its people and culture in a meaningful way.
