Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park - Starting from Alice Springs or Yulara (Uluru Airport), the adventure into the Red Centre begins with a journey towards the iconic Uluru. Travelers departing from Alice Springs will enjoy a picturesque drive, stopping at Mt Conner lookout—often mistaken for Uluru—and taking a brief pause at Curtin Springs before reaching the campground for lunch.
In the afternoon, the group visits the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to delve into the rich Aboriginal heritage, geology, and ecology of the area. From there, the journey continues to the base of Uluru, where a walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole reveals sacred rock art and ancient Dreamtime stories of Kuniya and Liru. The tour then proceeds to Kantju Gorge, passing significant cultural sites such as an elder’s cave and traditional food storage areas. With some luck, visitors might witness Central Australia’s tallest waterfall after rain. As the day concludes, everyone settles in for a stunning Uluru sunset, enjoying a freshly prepared dinner with panoramic views, marking a perfect end to an incredible first day.

Uluru to Kata Tjuta to Kings Canyon

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park - An early rise for a light breakfast precedes a visit to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to experience a breathtaking Red Centre sunrise. As the first light touches the desert, the majestic silhouette of Kata Tjuta presents a stunning contrast to Uluru’s monolithic form.

The group then embarks on a hike through either the Valley of the Winds or Walpa Gorge, navigating between the towering domes and absorbing the striking geology and ancient beauty of this sacred landscape.

After exploring Kata Tjuta, the journey continues toward Kings Canyon, arriving just in time for another unforgettable Outback sunset. The day concludes around the campfire with a hearty dinner, sharing stories under a sky full of stars.

Kings Canyon to West MacDonnell Ranges

Kings Canyon - Another early start takes the group into the sacred lands of the Ulpanyali and Lilla people to explore the spectacular Kings Canyon (Watarrka)—often referred to as the crown jewel of Central Australia. Towering sandstone walls over 100 meters high surround the hikers as they traverse this awe-inspiring landscape. Participants are advised to bring a hat, water, and sturdy shoes as they explore the rim and descend into hidden chasms, marveling at the canyon’s geology and rare flora and fauna.

After a well-deserved rest, the journey continues north, passing through Alice Springs, and onward to the West MacDonnell Ranges, where the group arrives at a remote campsite. Here, the outback reveals its magic as everyone gathers around the campfire for a hearty meal, relaxes with fellow travelers, and enjoys an unforgettable stargazing experience in the clear, unpolluted skies of remote Central Australia.

Tjoritja West MacDonnell Ranges and Standley Chasm to Alice Springs

Tjoritja/West MacDonnell National Park - The final day of the journey begins in the West MacDonnell Ranges, starting with Ormiston Gorge. Surrounded by towering red cliffs, breakfast is enjoyed in this tranquil setting, reflecting on the forces that shaped the land. As the sun rises, native wildlife may be spotted stirring in the cool morning air.

Next, the group visits Ellery Creek Big Hole (Udepata), one of Central Australia’s most scenic waterholes. Framed by rugged cliffs and sandy banks, it offers a refreshing place to swim and unwind.

The tour then explores the dramatic Standley Chasm (Angkerle Atwatye), where narrow sandstone walls rise up to 80 meters high, creating a striking natural corridor rich in cultural significance. The final stop is Simpsons Gap, a beautiful site with a permanent waterhole nestled between cliffs. It’s a peaceful place that holds deep meaning as a meeting point of several Aboriginal dreaming trails. As the journey concludes and the group returns to Alice Springs, they reflect on four days of exploration.
