Sunny day out. We met our guide driver at pick up point, he was welcoming and pleasant. He gave us a complimentary. - You need to be reasonably fit as there is quite a lot of walking involved. There is a shuttle service on site, but you need to be able to walk the exhibition garden, house etc. No lift in the house stairs to manage, maybe pack some snacks and water

Fun day - Had a great time! Robert, my driver and tour guide, was a lot of fun and helpful. Recommend you plan what you want to see at Mt Vernon vs. what you are willing to miss, as 3 hours goes by quicker than you realize. I did not get to see the educational film at the end and missed something special.

Enjoyable trip to Mount Vernon, Alexandria and DC. - Such a great tour! It had a little bit of everything. Mount Vernon was impressive. Definitely could’ve spent more time there. Then toured a little of Alexandria, VA. Then back to DC where we drove around and learned about the different things to do in DC. Robert was very knowledgeable and very personable, which made it even better.

The American hero I needed - Our visit to Mt. Vernon was so worth it! In this present day of a very divided nation, it was inspiring to hear about someone who put his country first. Touring each room of the mansion filled in the gaps of what life was like in the 1780-1790’s. They offer free headsets which are simple to use and offer a more in depth look at colonial life. The exhibits also took a close look at the lives of enslaved people who worked there—almost 300 of them. Visiting Mt. Vernon showed the good and the bad— our patriotic, courageous founding father who also owned slaves. There is a brand new interactive exhibit that just opened in 2026. Plan on 3 hours there if you enjoy history.

This is a good... - This is a good opportunity to visit Washington's estate that's some distance from DC, especially if you don't have a car. Highly recommended - you will have about 3.5 hours there which is enough to walk past every building. Most are reconstructions based on what we know about the old days.

Mt. Vernon in May - If you go in May beware of middle school groups touring and causing the lines to be longer than usual leaving you little time to explore the grounds.

A trip back in time to the 18th Century - This was an easy and enjoyable way to experience Mt Vernon independently while letting someone else do the driving, It was a small group, 16 total, and transport was a comfortable van. On the drive, our guide Robert provided a lot of information on Washington, some that we knew but a lot we did not. He accompanied us as far as the entrance and obtained the ground and mansion tour tickets for us, then turned us loose for 3 hours, meeting us back at the gate at the end. It's enough time to take the mansion tour and see most of the grounds if you move quickly. For someone not as mobile, might be a struggle. - it's a large area. The mansion is still undergoing renovations, but what has been done is impressive. As are the grounds, outbuildings, tomb and gardens. Very authentic, I could picture George and Martha on the veranda watching the river with a drink in hand. (I understand they were fond of Madeira Wine and Cherry Bounce :) The drive back was through old town Alexandria. Another wonderful job of preservation, we plan to stay here in an historic property on our next trip The cost of the tour includes entrance to the grounds ($21PP) plus timed entry to the mansion tour ($25 PP).Considering the cost of gas or Uber, plus the hassle of driving in DC traffic (No thank you! I'd like to keep my sanity), It was a good value for the price.

Mt Vernon is a lovely day trip. - The enjoyment of the ride out and back is the person who is narrating the journey. The gentleman that we had seemed very knowledgeable. However, he was very hard to understand. Maybe the volume or lack there of inflection in his speech. Most people fell asleep. I knew this due to the loud snoring. Coming from practically every row. Even my traveling companion fell asleep. I also was not keen on how he promoted his own tour trips given we were on a Viator trip.

Not enough time! - Not enough time. Like driver but time too short. Only had time to see both videos and house tour. No time to eat, go to the tomb’s and visit the rest of the property.
